‪I went back a 2nd time as I thought the Enchanted Walk was the right place, but it is not. The correct walk is near the Stratford Mountain House. Approx 20-30 minutes, easy access but not wheelchair friendly. Amazing trees, saw a Wood Pigeon and heard many other birds. ‬

‪Loved this short walk, make sure you take your camera. Easy walking and a beautiful forest. Its part of the walk to Wilkies pools at Dawson Falls.‬

‪The first segment of the Wilkies Pools track is the section referred to as the goblin forest.

The Wilkes Pools track is a loop track, and only the first section is boardwalked so suitable for wheels and return the same way.

The air is clean and cool. Take a warm layer as it can be chilly especially in the early morning and under the canopy.

The surrounding bush is sub-alpine, covered in moss, lichen and ‘ old man’s beard’.There is filtered natural light, giving it an aura of peace and calmness.

Good place for those with an active imagination.

To access, drive to Dawson Falls Visitor Centre at the end of Manaia Rd. Take care on the narrow roads up to the visitor centre. Walks are clearly marked but drop into the Visitor Centre for more details or if unsure.‬

‪We took our 3 year old son on this walk we all really enjoyed it. It’s quite short so great for young kids. Lovely big mossy trees. It quite a bit colder up there so make sure you bring a jumper. ‬

‪Egmont national park is just a stunning place, you could easily spend a full day or two exploring it! You'll know the goblin forest when you see it! And it's absolutely enchanting; the twisted trees covered in thick moss...it is really other worldly. We spent about 4hrs here exploring every trail we came across! One had us cross a river and shimmy up a ladder! Really a very cool place.‬

‪To be fair this is a delightful walk. However the “goblin forest” part of the walk is so like all the delightful bush walks in the bush in New Zealand, we found the name a little unnecessary. Most of the bush paths we trod on our 4 day journey here and around the Waitomo area could be called exactly this in parts, and we could easily imaging these all being part of the “Lord of the Rings” country.‬

‪This is actually part of the larger "Walk" and is not really marked or signed as "The Goblin Forest" but you will know it when you are there. Could be a bit spooky for a small child but for a normal, sane person it is just kind of peaceful and Enchanting. Make sure and do the entire "walk". It easy an easy walk, not really even a "Hike" but definitely worth doing.‬

‪When you walk amoung the moss covered Kamahi trees there's a real sense of peace and tranquility. Nature at it's best. The various shades are green are beautiful.‬

‪This attraction is part of the Wilkies Pools track from the DOC visitors centre at Dawson Falls in the Mt Taranaki National Park.
The track has recently been boardwalked so is suitable for all abilities right up to Wilkies Pools which is a river cascading down large boulders into a series of pools.
The track forms part of a circular loop the second part of which is not suitable for all as it's over and through native bush. ( information on the tracks is readily available from Basil at the Dawson Falls visitors centre)
The 'Goblin Forest' is en route to Wilkies Pools and as its name suggest consists of many many tress covered in long strands of lichen making it look like something out of the Hobbit, so if you or your children are Bilbo Baggins fans and want a non-strenuous walk in the native bush then take a trip to Dawson Falls with a picnic and walk where the Goblins live!‬

‪The walk was magical. There were so many birds there all making their presence known by song and actions. The plants were amazing and the walk ended with a magnificent view of the mountain over the swamp‬
