‪I was told about this place and I visited the next time I was free and it didn’t disappoint. The set up is genius and there are so many hidden corners I must have done ten laps of the place.

So many sections of books that are so well organised I came out of shop to load my car on three different occasions.

Andy answered so many questions of mine with enthusiasm and knowledge it only helped to increase mine.

The staff in the cafe were fab and the service incredibly prompt.

Then. THEN you spot Ten Bob Barn. Zero organisation just a barn full of random books costing fifty pence each. For that bargain you should have to work.

I spent hours here and way too much money. And I still feel there are corners I missed.

I whole heartedly recommend this place.

Only disappointment was a friend had arranged a book token for me to pick up and even after introducing myself as instructed I didn’t get it. I couldn’t ask for it as it was a surprise. Shame. But I didn’t know about that until the morning.

Still five stars.

Oh, Linda said I had to mention her.‬

‪Monday 9th May 2022, My husband and I awoke to a bright and sunny day, so we decided to go out for the day to visit Astley Farm Book Barn near Nuneaton. Astley Farm Book Barn is probably the largest second-hand bookshop in the Midlands, and holds over 75,000 books.

It was established some twenty years ago and is situated on an old farm, this bookshop is not easy to spot at unless you are specifically looking for it – and even then you need a sat nav to find the right road, as my husband and I did.

After parking our car my husband and I walked over and started in ‘The Ten Bob Barn, where all the books in there were 50p. It is separate to the main bookshop; this barn is smaller but holds a fairly large amount of books; if people have enough time I am sure a bargain can be found here. My husband and I did not find one here on this particular day.

The main book barn itself does not look that big from the outside, but once within we were amazed by its size. It was an Aladdin’s cave of gems that just like a maze continued with every twist and turn, just when thought you were coming to the back of the shop there was a small step and more books stretching away as far as the eye could see.

Despite its large size, it was wonderfully organised, the masses of fiction books were in alphabetical order so it is easy to find any book you are looking for. With such an immense choice of books there is a great chance that if you are looking for specific books – you will find them.

Additionally there are sections for science fiction, poetry, biography, sport and other non-fictions subjects, so anything you wish to look for can be found within.

As serious bookworms my husband and I are lovers of beautiful and old editions of books, it was great to see that the fiction sections had different versions of the same book to choose from. The bookshop also had a wonderful selection of Folio Society Books; the rarer and more expensive ones were locked in glass display cabinets.

Children’s books could be found in the ‘Children’s hayloft’ situated up a small flight of wooden steps. Here you can find a good range of second-hand children’s books including some much loved classes from Michael Bond’s Paddington Bear to J.M. Barrie’s ‘Peter Pan’.

If you need a rest after looking at so many books the book barn has several comfy chairs and sofas placed throughout the barn to give it a homely, welcoming feel. There is even a wood burner, to keep people warm on chillier days and in winter months.

My husband and I spent more than four hours mooching around the shelves. We both found gems for our collection of books. My husband found three books for his Oxford History of England collection, he purchased ‘Roman Britain by Peter Salway, ‘ The English Settlements’ by J N L Myers and ‘Domesday Book To Magna Carta’ by A L Poole. I found one gem for my ‘Robin Cook’ series a book called ‘Chromosome 6’, all for the bargain price of twenty eight pounds. My husband and I were then in need of refreshments, so we paid for out books and headed to the cafe.

The cafe also offers somewhere to relax, drink and eat. My husband and I looked at the small but interesting menu and we made our choices. My husband had a Wiltshire sausage roll served with chutney, coleslaw, a small crisp fresh salad and crisps, which he said was very filling. I had a cheese and ham toasted sandwich which was served with coleslaw, a crisp side salad, chutney and crisps, it was very tasty but a little too much for me, My husband helped finish my sandwich. We washed all this lovely food down with a pot of tea for my husband and a latte coffee for me. We spent a nice hour here relaxing in this very nice environment.

My husband and I left Astley Farm Book Barn as it closed at 5.00pm.

If you love books then this is the place to visit.‬

‪Four of us went to the book farm today. The outdoor and tent area are lovely, staff were also nice. I was a bit disappointed with the quality book selection for the younger children although there was a wide selection for adults. We spent £25 on books and £29 on toasties, cake and hot and cold drinks while we were there. I always take my daughters lunch with us as she has allergies and usually my own. I was a very put out that I was told we could not eat some of our own food despite purchasing most of our food (mains and deserts) from the cafe. The lady was nice enough when she told us but I think staff need to get things in perspective! We could’ve eaten a full picnic in the car but would not then have spent the £29 in the cafe. I’m pretty sure we won’t be going back!‬

‪As a very picky eater I'm very cautious where I eat. However, this place is home from home the atmosphere is utterly delightful and the food is just as perfect as expected. You habe a chosento either eat near a log fire or eat in the soon or yurt. Digs are welcome outside and on there leads whi h is acceptable as my I enjoy taking my dogs to places they are allowed. In addition, the wide range of books on sale is incredible and worth having a look around as a book might choose you. I find what makes a place is the staff that is hired and I definitely say they have polite, sensible and respectable staff.‬

‪I've visited on different occasions as it's local and it's quite a sweet place to go with friends and have a mooch around the library.
Last visit I had a milkshake which was really underwhelming. You can see where the powder hadn't mixed properly but even when mixed, the flavour was really dull. Basically water with a hint of banana taste. We did bring it to one of the girl's attention that it tasted watery and asked if we could have another (we hadn't drank much of them at this point), but she just replied with "it's not made with water, it's made with ice cream" and that's it. A little disappointing.
Otherwise, the toasties and sausage rolls are nice. They use Costco cakes, which are lovely, but would be nice to see them support local businesses which would add to the general cosy, more personal vibe of the cafe.
Safe to say I won't be going there for milkshakes again. Maybe a coffee next time?‬

‪Such an amazing place, nice staff, beautiful decorations.
The only thing that disappoint me it's the food. I ordered a vegan pasty and it wasn't good. It was just a burnt pasty full of air.‬

‪We traveled over 30 miles to visit, we have been a few times before & loved it. Today when we arrived it was busy but not overcrowded. We decided to head to the cafe first. We placed our order for tea & 2 slices of cake. Our friend ordered a can of pop & cake. The tea and 1 slice of cake arrived after a few minutes. Then after another 5 minutes and still no sign of our other slices of cake we caught attention of a passing waitress and pointed out we were still waiting for another 2 slices of cake. She did not look happy but, returned our missing order with an apology.
The lemon cake was overly sweet and dry at £4 a slice it's not cheap. We loved looking around the books sitting in the snug by log fire. I can't leave without buying from my favourite Folio section. When purchasing the books again the lady serving never greeted any of us with a friendly smile. In fact the only thing she said to us was the price we owed. I think a lesson is needed in customer service. A smile goes a long way. We may return but not for a long time & would hope to see people happy in their work .‬

‪What a find! Excellent place to while away the hours immersed in books - lots of places to sit and read and a lovely snug with a fire to keep cosy and go through all the books you have picked up along the way!

We had lunch in the yurt which was delicious! Attentive staff and a range of cakes that would delight everyone - coffee and walnut highly rated!

Definitely will become a regular haunt and recommended for all ages to enjoy!‬

‪Genuinely one of my favourite places! Even if you’re not a reader it’s worth going just for the great food! Now with added yurt!!!‬
