Situata quasi direttamente sulla spiaggia questa scultura è ispirata ad una tela del pittore Gomes. Ricorda la grande tragedia occorse nelle acque portoghesi a causa di una tempesta avvenuta tra 1 e 2 dicembre 1947 nella quale perirono 152 persone lascia ndo dietro di sè vedove e orfani.

This monument touches me as it represents all the seafarers we have lost at sea over the years. A very poignant and sobering reminder of the dangers of our life at sea

A monument to a local sea tragedy. We came across this when visiting Porto during a cruise I was with my partner, his sister and her family early August 2023 whilst walking alongside the beach and stopped off to take a look. There is also some information provided. A fitting monument displaying the emotion of such a tragedy.

As you wander down the beach to the shipping port, you will see these statues, of family members wanting their family members back from the sea. Well worth taking a look.

La verdad es que no nos gustó mucho, pero es normal es un monumento a una tragedia. Esta muy bien hecha pero se ve la agonía en las caras.

Efectivamente el monumento "Tragédia no mar" representa lo que es. Se ve las caras de sufrimiento, de angustia.

On other trips we've taken to Porto, we did attend a Fado show which went into detail about how all the families have their own plaids. The purpose is to make it easy to identify the drown family members upon their recovery. It is a nasty piece of reality that goes along with the occupational baggage fishermen must carry.
Here is a commemorative statue depicting the crippling events of December 1 and 2, 1947 when several fishing boats went down taking 152 crewmembers with them. The cost in human lives would expand to include 72 widows and 152 orphans.
Their pain is palpable.

Très beau monument évoquant effectivement la tragédie d'un naufrage de 1947.
Cela m'a fait songer aux nombreux naufrages des marins bretons dont maintes familles se sont trouvées amputées d'un ou plusieurs de leurs membres ( père, fils etc) ....

O monumento "Tragédia do Mar" lembra os homens que morreram no naufrágio de 1947. As cinco figuras dos órfãos e viúvas estão muito bem retratados nestas esculturas, transparecendo todo dor, desespero e tristeza. Localiza-se na praia de Matosinhos.
