‪This was a highlight for me of this trip and of course the reason we added Urfa to our itinerary early on.

The site is well managed, and the experience ranks up there with Petra, Giza and Antarctica.

While the site itself is fascinating and best complemented by the museum in downtown Sanliurfa, what's even better is to combine with a drive out to Karahan Teppe. There you see archeology in formation, with a sister that's likely even older and even bigger, and more so you can be walking up a hill and realize you are standing on the very tip of one of these ancient T-shaped icons just barely emerging from the ground.

Why did they build these huge temple complexes, what were the rituals like, and then why did they so carefully bury it all. You have to come to the region to fully experience this and not be taken away by thoughts of conspiracies and legend, but rather when you arrive you realize this is and was a very human experience for a society that has long vanished. What were their stories and practices, the mind just wonders and wants to know after visiting.

TIP: Don't come all the way to Gobekli Tepe and not also see Karahan Tepe.‬

‪Anfangspunkt der menschlichen Geschichte! Must see Lokation. Unglaubliche Tempel und Umgebung. Bevor man da ist sollte man auch das SANLIURFA Stadtmuseum gesehen haben.‬

‪This is the reason to visit the area…and Turkey. The most important discovery of the 21st century! Study up befor you go. Be sure to see the museum in Sanliurfa. We went before going to Gobekli- I think it helped us.

Fabulous!‬

‪Les plus vieilles constructions humaines sur terre. Une émotion intense. Un site parfaitement conservé et très bien mis en valeur ‬

‪If you go to Gobekli Tepe - be sure to hire a guide. Preferably one with knowledge of all of the ins and outs of the museums, the understanding of the meanings of each of the enclosures and who can talk to you about some of the mythical links between Neolithic cultures and the carvings. I was really lucky to have found one in Taha Ozyavuz - and he made my entire visit to Anatolia safe, welcoming and intriguing as a solo female traveler. I was picked up at the airport and into touring then dropped off at my hotel complete with help with the language for checking in etc. Then the next day we were off to the Pot belly (Gobekli Tepe) to see the ruins. This was indeed one of the most delightful and magical trips of my life - seeing the carvings of boars, foxes, cranes, snakes and bulls and seeing how the ancient society worshiped the stars. I am still in awe of this incredible gift to society. If you want to travel to Gobekli Tepe without taking a plane you can watch "The Gift" on Netflix. It is also called "Attiye" in Turkish. You can almost feel the land speaking to you in ancient tongues when you arrive. Taha just expedites this process and brings you to a cafe to have a local tea and some local delicacies after to integrate your experience. A must see. Don't miss it!‬

‪I came here as part of tour with Taha Ozyavuz and it was an excellent trip. The guide was very knowledgeable and therefore, I was able to enjoy this great place very well.

Only circles A thru D are open to visit. Circle E & F are still under excavation. Pay attention to the carvings on the individual pillars in each circle. There is also a small tree up the hill with four graves to visit.

This structure was the main reason I flew from Istanbul to Sanliurfa. This temple is more than 10700 years old! That is before even man started to settle down for agriculture. How did they make this? Why did they make this and cover it up later? Will we ever find out? So many questions for you to answer..do visit this place! Get in touch with Taha who is an excellent guide and is available at @gobeklitepe_guide.‬

‪What can you say that has not already been documented. This could be one of the places you have to see in your lifetime. We went in mid July and it was pretty hot. A remote place to get to, but if you stay in Sanliurfa you will be a half hour drive away. Try and get there early as the parking is pretty rough. just a small parking lot and then you are parking on the road. There is a shuttle bus that takes you the last quarter mile and you will need tickets from the museum or the entrance gate. If you want to get a good vie then there is an exact replica of the temples in the sanliurfa Archeological museum and you can walk around and touch those. fantastic atmosphere at the place though. As they say give it an extra star if you have seen the Netflix series "The Gift"‬

‪Our trip was entirely based on our desire to visit Gobekli Tepe and it does not disappoint. Allow yourself a few hours for the visit. Some drivers will be keen to include Harran as part of the trip. It is fascinating, and we enjoyed a walk with a local guide, but you might need to be very interested in history (or the bible) to find Harran satisfying. ‬

‪This is the oldest temple ever discovered on the planet dating back to 9600 B.C. Although they are a bunch of T-shaped carved rocks, they have some interesting artistic features and incredible history. Tour this site with a guide because there is a lot to see and learn here.‬
