Quite a bit out of the way of everything, this Monastery has an unbelievable view over the northern coast of Lebanon. The monastery itself is not distinguished but certainly go for the views.

I have never visited before leaving the country 30 years ago. I just took my family on the first visit back since nine years. The place was quiet, serene and the lower small historic church carved in the rock riveting. It is gated with a key given Upon request. This explains why it has not been commercialized. And there lies beauty.
Unlike Harisa, one can still feel overwhelmed with a sense of faith without the hustle and bustle of surrounding cafes and picnic tables.
Wonder how long it will stay that way !
Go see it !

Perché sur la montagne offrant une vue sur une plage paradisiaque avec cet eau turquoise. Un très beau monastère surtout l'ancienne église qui se trouve tout en bas des longues marches qui nous laisse profiter de la superbe vue de la plage de chikka tout au long de la descente.
P.S: un petit conseil, éviter les vêtements courts pour les femmes ainsi que pour les hommes (shorts, jupes courtes, haut sans manche, décolleté.….)

This place is holy and magical. It is the most peaceful place in lebanon and a must stop whenever you are close to northern lebanon.

È um monastério, onde tem uma igreja do estilo árabe ( construção de pedra), igreja católica maronita, com uma vista belíssima!

We stopped here for about 1 hour. There is a very easy walk from parking area to the overlook with stunning views. The trees are amazing- they have all grown sideways as a result of the high winds. Definitely worth the stop.

Probably the only spot in Lebanon where ou can see both Beirut and Tripoli. This 4th Century Greek Orthodox monastery is located on a promontory overlooking the Med. Chekka bay is about 100m straight down the cliff, and the waters so pristine, you could almost see the fish.
Take the path to the grotto below the monastery, where a permanent light shines (The monastery is named Saydet al Nouriyeh, or Lady of Light). It is said that light guided a Byzantine emperor to safety when his galley was in a storm, and he then built the monastery to give graces to the Virgin Mary.
