Get there right at 10:00 when they open the entry and enjoy for yourself the piece of ancient and not so far history.
Worth wearing sport shoes because you will be climbing up the rocks if you want to explore the whole site.
After that get sunbed at the beach and enjoy the view.

Endroit magnifique ! Surtout le soir quand la foule de l’AM est partie. Le coucher de soleil est à couper le souffle! Balade dans les rues commerçantes … ambiance musicale … tout est parfait pour un couple. C’est reposant et à la fois tellement coloré !

Site historique et bien entretenu.
La visite nous donne un aperçu de la façon dont y vivait les habitants des différentes époques.
Il n'y a malheureusement pas plus d'explications sur l'histoire de ces grottes.
Cela n’empêche pas d'apprécier.
La vue d'en haut sur la plage et la mer est magnifique mais attention prévoir de bonnes chaussures pour limiter les risques de glissades.

Grottes originales, creusées dans l’antiquité pour y mettre les défunts, et réutilisées dans les années 70 par les hippies, c’est plutôt déconcertant et très intéressant. Prévoir quand même de bonnes chaussures si vous voulez monter tout en haut

Un lieu à découvrir absolument ! Aussi simple que soit ce petit village bardé de boutiques de souvenirs propres à la Crète et de Restaurants peu surprenants, il y a de la magie et de l’histoire ici ! On se sent bien à Matala et on aimerait y rester plus longtemps qu’une seule journée ! C’est une belle découverte, facile d’accès. Prévoir des sandales de baignade c’est plus confortable !

Très interessant. Prenez des chaussures qui ne glissent pas. Le site fermait entre 13h et 15h pour cause de grosse chaleur

it's an exceptional place with a very interesting history

Zeker leuk als je er in de buurt bent, echter zou ik er niet voor omrijden. Het is leuk om te klimmen en klauteren, maar als je niet goed kunt klauteren heb je er slechts twee, drie groetjes die je kunt bekijken. Kun je dat wel is het uitzicht indrukwekkender dan de grotten zelf. Pluspuntje, mijn zwangere vrouw mocht om die reden gratis met me mee naar binnen.

Vorsaison: Daher Parkplatz umsonst und Eintritt frei!
Kann man sich anschauen, ist aber auch nichts besonderes.
Man klettert halt in die Höhlen und kann auf den Strand und die Bucht schauen.....
Wer es mag!
Hätten wir dafür bezahlt, hätten wir uns geärgert!

This was great fun, scrambling around the rocks and caves. Just wear good shoes and be ready to get dirty. The beach is cute and the town has a fun, hippy vibe. Well worth the drive.
