The lavender here is past its best now, the flowering has mainly been and gone, and the dried out grey stalks remain. There are some sunflowers in the far field.

Really enjoyed our visit to Hitchin Lavender. It has been a challenging year for growers, with the dry weather and extreme heat, so the lavender plants are a bit past their peak. There are several varieties of lavender, and some were still putting on a good display of purple flowers. You can still pick the Lavender to use at home when the flowers are starting to go over, and it does not really need more drying! The fields are open all day - from 9am-8pm. I was a bit concerned about crowds, but arriving first thing on Sunday we were able to look around with no problem. Hitchin lavender isn't only lavender. The wildflowers had gone over, but the seed heads were attracting flocks of goldfinches which was lovely to see - even 'charming!'
The sunflowers were just coming out, and this hot weather will move them on quickly.
Last year the field by the entrance was looking a bit sad, with the different varieties of lavender. Great to see that had been re-planted and look forward to seeing the results of that next year.
The shop had a good range of products using lavender and by local crafts people. With things to suit a range of budgets. Finally the food. We really enjoyed our meal at the barn. A tasty range of tarts served with a choice of fresh salads. Plenty of outdoor seating including some in the shade. Generous portions and well presented. Our meals out have been a bit random recently, but the food was excellent. There are both vegetarian and vegan options available.

Was okay. Didn't enjoy much. Lavenders were not in good condition. Maintenance was not good. Overall okay experience compared to price of tickets.

Was an amazing experience. Definitely worth the effort. Great tea room etc. (I think £7.50 to visit the fields and £3 to cut lavender). The fields looked spectacular with a very natural perfume of lavender. Was great just to walk amongs the lavender. Followed by an all things lavender tea afterwards.

It’s with a heavy heart that I leave 2*. This used to be one of our favourite places, the smell is lovely and it used to be calm and peaceful. the price shift is astronomical and photo shoots spoil the natural beauty. It feels like you are being ripped off and it’s really sad and spoils the whole experience.

The entrance fee is far too high. On top of that you pay to pick the lavender and for refreshments. So essentially you are paying around £30 for a family walk in a field before purchasing anything else.

It seems to have become very commercialised. It was so busy…there were no control measures so people walked in and out as they pleased, to pick lavender you paid £3 for a bag but then you see people picking lavender without paying anyway so it makes you feel ripped off. No staff around, eating areas dirty. The lavender is undoubtedly beautiful, the shop has lovely bits and the cafe and food in the main field was great. The crowds of people just ruin the beautiful scenery unfortunately.

Reduce the entrance fee! In fact there should be no entrance fee. We were charged £9.50 per adult and £6.00 per child over 3. £31 for a family of 4 to then be charged £3 for a bag to pick lavender. We went on 19th July so the lavender was past its best and my 5 and 6 year old soon lost interest in the lavender. Honestly I haven’t felt so ripped off in a long time, my friends have been going for years and are all of the opinion they have overpriced themselves

As they charge a booking fee I thought I would pay on site to save this. I rang to check this was possible beforehand but there was no answer. When I got there I was charged £4.50 extra than booking online which I could have done on my phone when I arrived (it's not an advance only price) but didn't realise until after I paid and £22 for 1 adult and 2 children in my opinion is alot of money. We were only there for an hour to take photos as I have been going every year for 7 years since my son was born. We would have stayed longer but it costs an extra £4 each on top to pick the lavender (again more than it states online) and the food and drink is pricey too so we came home for an ice-cream. Years ago the lavender was brighter and it was far more reasonable but every year the price goes up. There are some very tatty areas too. Lots of weeds, empty patches and dull lavender. It's only the far few rows that are bright purple. Such a shame and it was always a beautiful treasure to have on our doorstep.

It is indeed £6 per adult and under 14's £3, but it is a great experience and the brown paper bag you get enables a fair bit of lavender to be collected. It was very relaxing and also addictive, you just want to keep cutting. We have some dried out in vases and have taken the seeds off others to use in different ways. Of course the best time to go is when the lavender is in full bloom. There is lots more to see and do on the site, so well worth a visit even if you don't cut lavender.

i just heard from them that it is in full bloom now.
if in doubt call them they are the best to know if in full bloom as things change from year to year

Their lavender products in the cafe a great all year around though 😉

I think the lavender will be gone now sure about the sunflowers it depends how many have been cut. Maybe drop them an email.

I am so excited to visit but i read on the website there will be £50 charge for portraits photos on the field. So does this mean professional portraits only or any type of photos with my iPhone for me and my friends? It’s a crucial point tbh please anyone have an idea?

It is just professional photographers so as long as you don't turn up in your wedding cloths with 1000K of photographic equipment you are fine. I can see why they wish to limit this for the enjoyment of other visitor.

Is evening time best to visit your garden especially Saturday evening. Are sunflowers in bloom as well to make the visit fantabulous.?

They will not be open on Saturday evening. They close at 5pm everyday except for Tuesday and Friday, at which they close at 9pm. You can check their Facebook to see updates on what is in bloom.
