‪We walked the four-day track in March. It was a great opportunity to get into country that for most of us is otherwise inaccessible - and to do so with relative ease and comfort (pack transport, hot showers, solar lights, hut shops . . .). While the track isn't billed as a wilderness experience - there are constant reminders that you're on a working farm - the country is beautiful and varied, and we felt we had the hills to ourselves (which in fact we largely did). The history of the place is interesting and very evident. The walk isn't one to be underestimated - it's more challenging than the Banks Peninsula Track - and you need to be reasonably fit and sure-footed (which of course is a reflection of how interesting and remote much of the country is). Route-finding in fog could be challenging, but you're supplied with a walky-talky and are never far from a vehicle track. There were four of us, which seemed like a good number in the cosy huts. Those huts are comfortable, clean, and well-supplied, and the hosts are welcoming, thoughtful, and well organised. The track is a unique experience, which has been very well developed by the owners. A great get-away.‬

‪We had four wonderful days trekking on a traditional High Country Sheep Station just the two of us on our own. The huts were cosy and comfortable with wood-burner stoves if needed. It was a perfect insight into mustering as it has always been with the added touch of hot showers and flush loos nearby. Jo and Steve seemed to have thought of everything and even provided little surprise 'goodies', which would have been even better if we had understood the New Zealand word 'smoko'! The tracks were mostly well-marked and the overgrown bits were absolutely natural and added to the challenge and interest. We particularly appreciated the careful labelling of different native plants from which as Brits on our first visit to NZ we learnt a lot. We were very lucky with the weather but it is very important to take the advice you are given and go well prepared for all weathers.‬

‪My sister and I did the four day 50km walk. This is self guided with excellent markers ( spaced closely where there isn't a well worn track - we need them in the one morning of low cloud) and waterproof guide leaflet. Comfortable bunk-bedded mustering (shepherding) huts with solar powered lighting. There are separate covered kitchens attached/very near and a hut close -by with a hot shower and flush toilet. One's spare clothes and chilly-bin (large cool-box) are transported for you in between huts.
Wonderful views, and some interesting geology. longest climb 3000ft‬

‪We took a 24 hour break from a recent cycling holiday to do the 'Shepherd's Overnighter' experience of walking into the farm as far as the Devils Creek Hut, which the owner Jo made sure we had for ourselves for the night. A great little escape and if you haven't hiked before it's a good introduction (just 2.5 hours each way). Chilling the wine while swimming in the creek, and lighting the cosy fire (in February!) were among the highlights. Note it is a shepherd's hut with bunks, not a boutique lodge! But very atmospheric, and the hot shower in the adjacent outbuilding was welcome.‬
