‪For our shame it’s taken us 8 years of living in the area to visit this national trust property. It’s surprisingly bigger than it appears on the outside and is packed with artefacts that make its history come alive. The two ladies who were available to inform and answer inquiries were excellent. My 5 year old granddaughter learned much as she used a treasure hunt to scour the rooms. and loved working a loom and contributing to a rag rug. A short video set the scene (a little creaky but it does the job!) and info from the trust representatives allowed us to imagine the lives of those who had lived and worked there. Highly recommended.‬

‪We took friends to see this cottage as we knew they would enjoy it. Guides are very knowledgeable and helpful. There are uneven floors and a number of steps so it isn't ideal for anyone with mobility problems. A very enjoyable visit which took us over an hour to complete.
At our previous visit there was a weaver operating the old loom but not on this occasion. Apparently there is nobody left in the village with the skills to operate the loom.
As with most NTS properties, I recommend a visit but check opening times on the website first. Today the cottage opened from 1-5pm and we had arrived before 12 noon. We had a nice wander around Kilbarchan while waiting for the cottage to open.‬

‪After visiting Geilston Gardens, I decided to visit this National Trust for Scotland site, on my way home.
Entry fee for Adults is £7.50, but as my Company has a Corporate Membership, I was able to get in for £1!
I was greeted by James on entering the Cottage, and during his welcome chat, we were joined by Rhia.
What a wonderful pair of NTS staff, they made me feel so welcome, and they had great knowledge of the Cottage and it's history.
James recommended that I watch a short 10 minute video about the Cottage. This was an excellent suggestion, as the video was really interesting and well worth watching.
James then took me on a tour of the Cottage, and even offered me a go on the new weave machine, which I declined as I am so ham fisted, I didn't want to ruin the weave!!
I would easily say that paying £7.50 is so worth it, as it is a wonderful insight into our past heritage.
NTS you should be so proud of the two amazing staff that I met today.‬

‪I called by here as I was in the area. Previously the cottage had been closed, but today I was in luck.
Firstly I highly recommend the cottage as a great piece of social history. The building has a fascinating history and is 297 years old. The rooms are easy to imagine as family areas and downstairs the working weaving loom is in action, with a lovely wooden plaid under construction. Charlotte gave me a demonstration and answered all my questions with a real depth of knowledge. The garden should not be missed, so lovely and Spring bulbs were abounding in the sunshine.
There is a DVD which is about 10 minutes long and also very reminiscent of the olden days.
Big thank you to Rabbie, James and Charlotte for giving me a really good overview of this delightful National Trust property.
Highly recommend. Open 5 days a week over summertime, Thursday-Tuesday 10-5pm. Please check these times! ‬

‪I have lived in the area for some years and hadn't had the chance to visit. Very interesting as it has a lot of photographs of the village in times gone by. Very focused in the weavers life and times.
One of the guides lives locally, so has a good knowledge.
Nice garden at the back of cottage.

Bear in mind, Weavers cottage in only open from Easter to the end of September.‬

‪Really lovely spot to see, from the special rafters visible in the upper story to the special treadle space cut out of the basement floor--fascinating to see how weavers work and live in a different time. They need to record that video onto a new disc before it gives up the ghost though--it was great! Would love to see another resident weaver as well, but I know that's hard...in the meantime, stop by to see Christine MacLeod's lovely Bannockburn tartan while it lasts! Beautiful garden as well, with laundry and toilet from 18/19th century on display, as well as bits found in archaeological dig next door!
Note: very steep stairs and uneven (worn stone) floors may be tricky for some walkers.‬

‪Initially built as just a two room cottage with basement weavering work shop was even then home to two - Rooms now fully restored as they would have been then. Two guides and a short film gave an absolutely fascinating story of life for a weaving family and showed how the loom worked. Small but so so worth a tour with super guides, lots historic nick-naks and a drawer of every tartan.‬

‪Fascinating visit to this tiny, well restored and sympathetically arranged cottage - it felt as if the occupants had just stepped out and would be back in a moment. Impressive display of working looms from before the Industrial Revolution, when, incredibly, there were around 800 looms in this village's cottages. Beautiful authentic cottage garden behind with plants used for traditional dyes. Visit much enhanced by passionate, proud and well-informed staff and re-enactment style short video which is great for bringing the history to life, especially for children and teens. Highly recommended for anyone interested in textiles and social history. ‬
