This late 16th-century church was originally founded by the Augustinians. However, it was destroyed by fire and typhoons quite a number of times requiring reconstructions and modifications before receiving its actual form. The façade, the belfry, and the interior remain beautiful. I particularly like the "retablos" and the main altar in the sanctuary and the pulpit on one of its walls. The place is very clean and well-kept. We also had a chance to visit its newly renovated sacristy and spacious parish hall.

Constructed in 1575 this is one of the oldest Catholic churches in the Philippines, but it was originally made from bamboo and nipa leaves, burnt down the following year. Another bamboo church was replaced by a stone church in 1599. It was burnt down a few more times but in 1730 it was rebuilt by 14,000 forced laborers. During the future centuries it was burnt, destroyed by a typhoon and eventually the roof was replaced.

This is one of the historical churches that we visited during our day trip,
We were disappointed to learn that church renovation is going on. Took several outside pictures of this church.

My friend texted me a day before the trip.I don't know but I was shocked for the reason that I was not even prepared and they have this conversation about this whole thing ahead of time and I was not aware.
This is a day tour, and we discover this place from someone who posted this in facebook. Actually, part of the day tour is a falls in Majayjay as well.
From Manila, we took a bus going to Sta. Cruz Laguna in Buendia or if your near somewhere in the north area there's a bus terminal in cubao as well.
And mind you guys, you should drop off exactly at the center of Sta. Cruz, because there's a jeepney terminal going to Majayjay..Then ask the jeepney driver to drop you to the place going to bukal falls since they know it already and lots of tourist are finally discovering the place.
After the jeepney ride, you still need to take a trike going to the Barangay for registration ang Tour Guide is mandatory.
There's a rest room insde the Barangay hall so,If you will change your clothes, you can do it because when you reach the falls you dont have a place to change.
Then, it's up to you to take another trike going to the starting point for trekking..
See I'm really not prepared. There's a store that you can rest for a bit in the middle of your journey to the falls, and I swear make sure you exercise before this because there are difficult tracks there and it will test your strenght..hmmhmm
And it is worth it guys..When we finally see the falls it is very rewarding..
It may not be as tall as other people are climbing but you will still be amaze of what nature can bring.. The water is cold and refreshing.. You can jump since theres a rock there whe you can do it and according to the tour guide the deep of the water is 15 feet , and it is a must to have a life vest since i don't know how to swim.
After a life changing moment there, you have to go back of course and you will be tired but happy. I am close in not being able to finish it but I survived. Then after, we did visit this church that we are really planning in the first place.
And I'm in awe because the church was really beautiful and peaceful.
It soothes you by entering the church and all the things you've gone through the trekking was wiped out. It gives you a very light feeling..
The church was made of bamboo before but it was burned in fire,so after that this church was built like this and it is pretty.
Patron Saints even have places outside. We even met someone from the ministry that we asked if its okay to take photo.
Tips:
#1 it might be crowded during the weekend uf you will visit the falls
#2 bring the things that you only need and of course Food
#3 wear comfortable clothes

This is the oldest church in the area. It's imposing and fortresslike, almost monolithic. The interior and exterior of the church have both been restored with taste, meaning it doesn't look like its going to fall apart, but it still looks old. Its definitely worth the visit. Fans of the game "Uncharted" would feel right at home.
An interesting interior feature is the elevated gallery that runs the whole length of the church on both sides.

Majayjay Church is one great example of Filipino ingenuity and local religious architecture. Its 3-tiered facade makes this 400 year old heritage and cultural treasure a unique among the Philippine heritage churches. Its adjoining belltower is also a sight to behold.

One of the must see churches in Laguna, amazing how such churches were built in the past, truly a work of art.
