When we visited there was a mach between local football clubs. We enjoyed the football match here. Sitting arrangement is lovely.

Die Lage des Stadions ist aussergewöhnlich...so am Hang gelegen. Vom Garten des NorKhill Elgin-Hotels blickt man direkt ins Stadion, wo morgens die Schulklassen trainieren. Neben mir saß der große Elgin-Samowede und wir schauten uns zusammen die Übungsstunden an...dahinter die Berge und der endlose Himmel...

During our stay at Gangtok, we stayed next to the stadium. The stadium is big and was full kids playing football.

This football stadium is near SNT Bus Stand in Gangtok. The football stadium is very nice. A lot of people were playing football when i visited.

An incredible stadium in this tiny city of football lovers and it has a capacity of 30000. It is also called the Paljor Stadium and is the Head quarters of The United Sikkim Football Club. Beautifully maintained it was a wonderful experience visiting the stadium on a bright morning in April.

Interesting to just stroll around leisurely ; you could also get into any of the eateries that dot the entire road. This up & down stretch is good for a morning aerobic workout ; you could go as far as you want to, and if tired on return , get into any of the frequent cabs passing along.

Sikkim is a state where football is far far more popular than cricket. And Palzor Stadium is the main stadium of Gangtok city. In old times it used to host the annual Governor's Gold Cup organized by the Sikkim Football Association (SFA) in which leading teams like Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and JCT Phagwara used to participate.
There is an interesting anecdote regarding this tournament and stadium. The SFA would field two teams every year in this tourney and every year the local teams would get knocked out in the first round itself. Except for this one year when one of the SFA teams had 3 school kids playing from local school TNA. One of these kids was Baichung Bhutia. That year they beat Mohammaden Sporting - a team of full time professionals in the quarterfinals. In the semi finals they narrowly lost to East Bengal 2-1. East Bengal signed Baichung on the spot and the rest as they say is history.
In recent times Bhutia's own team Sikkim United have also played their I League matches on this ground. The stadium in itself is picturesque and can be compared to the cricket ground in Dharamshala.

Its an experience that you are sitting on top of sky and watching football matches played on clouds while you are sitting on hill side and facing towards valley
