‪I have been visiting Mugdock Park since a child but I have to admit they need to keep up with the times - every second person if not more had a dog and there are NO dog friendly cafes at Mugdock. I arrived today and tied my 5 year old dog up outside and carried my young pup of 12 weeks in my arms first to the small cafe and was abruptly told I could not come in with a dog. I explained that I could not leave him outside and that is why he was in my arms. This older lady informed me it was to do with hygiene - well my pups paws were certainly cleaner than some of the muddy boots that were in the cafe. I then left and tried the other cafe - stood at the door at asked if I could come in and order a carry out coffee also to be told no dogs were allowed even though my small pup was in my arms. Mugdock are going to lose out as every second cafe in Milngavie accepts dogs and even offers them a sausage. I will not be back and will choose to go the lovely Levengrove Park in Dumbarton where dogs are welcome in their cafe.‬

‪Mugdock is such a wonderful place to visit, with special thanks to Lynn in the craft centre for her kindness and warmth, and to the staff in Caulders Garden Centre. However, under no circumstances can I recommend the staff at the Stables café. I've rarely been served by ruder people who behaved as if they hated and despised their customers. Stay away - my family and I will be doing just that. Thumbs down - they're letting the side down in wonderfully friendly West of Scotland.‬

‪Actually this was 2019 -- and 2015 and 2017 -- but TripAdvisor dates don't go back that far. And it's a long way from Arizona!

My family's heritage is Graham of Montrose. My mother, born in Glasgow, was tremendously proud of that and drummed it into us kids pretty much from the time we were born to the time she died. I'm 85 now, so you get the idea.

We came to Scotland to discover the land of her birth and do a little family research. Mugdock Castle was once Graham territory, so of course we had to go. First of all, the ladies in the gift shop, Jo and Mary, were beyond wonderful ... so warm and kind, interested in our quest and just an ocean of useful and fascinating information.

Normally the Castle tours are guided by the rangers there ... but Jo even drove us out there personally, and shepherded us through a private tour. It was so far beyond what we could have anticipated that I still choke up a bit when I think about it.

And they were just as kind and helpful on our two subsequent tours. If ever we manage to go back -- and we definitely want to! -- Mugdock Country Park and Castle will be among the very first of our visits.

The whole place is beautiful. Don't miss it.‬

‪I have used this park for years, and have recently noticed the amount of dog walkers increasing and also the dog mess left everywhere. Dog pooh left in bags at the side of the path seems to be a popular thing.
This is the start of the West Highland Way and its an embarrassment to Scotland. People flying in from all over to look at dog pooh and dog pooh bags at the start of this walk. What a great first impression of this country.
Something needs to be done about these lazy selfish dog walkers who ruin the park for everyone else.
I even had one male dog walker with about 8 dogs off a lead try and intimidate me one day, as I was on my own, all because I asked him to get his dog away from me. He refused and I told him he was selfish. He then followed me through the park with these dogs all running about off the lead.He only left me alone after I spoke to another walker,he then took off quickly through the woods. Not a nice experience at all. I now only walk with friends there.‬

‪Amazing trails to walk through stunning scenery, paths well laid out and facilities ideal. Main visitor centre car park closes at 6ish with the gate locked at 6.30 but plenty of alternative parking.

The only thing to spoil our hike was one particular dog walker who had a white van parked in one of the car parks. She was obviously walking other peoples dogs. A significant number of the dogs, very few on a lead, in fact 3 seemed to have escaped as leads trailing behind them. Dogs barking constantly disturbing walkers and wildlife, dogs raced towards us barking and jumped on both of us with little acknowledgment from the dog walker. Obviously difficult for the country park to monitor this but those considering taking their own dogs or young children be careful.‬

‪Lovely park close to the city. Brought the dog and she had so much fun in the water. Castle is not massive but open and free. The coffe shop and local art on sale near the Caulders is cracking. If you are coming for the first time, you can park in a lot of the different parking spots but the main car park is near the Caulders.‬

‪Our first of many visits to this fun but massive country park.

LOCATION - from Western Glasgow, travel to Milngavie and follow Mugdock Road past Tannoch Loch. With Mugdock Reservoir on your right, follow the road clockwise until you reach Drumclog car park. This is where we parked (please note - this is not the main car park (it’s further north-west)).

THE PARK - we only covered a 5km stretch. We briefly touched the WHW before heading past Mugdock Castle, across a bit of marshland (bridge over it) and along a Bridle way, to reach the main visitor centre. The park was peaceful, interesting (in particular the castle) but busy - people and pets from all walks of life. It was good to experience a bit of greenery that carried with it many types of wildlife and preservation.

STAFF - the staff at the Spider Monkey cafe were polite (although turnaround was a bit slow). No issues with our order and friendly table service - they seemed to manage a large number of customers very well.

MEAL - lovely but expensive. We all ordered hot drinks (my son even had a child’s Milkshake). The food was decent although limited in choice (in particular the Sandwiches). Nonetheless, it was a good lunch to break up a day of exploring.

LITTLE POINTERS - for the visitor centre only, keep following the road around (the drive was actually very hilly but scenic). Wear appropriate footwear (some areas were a bit soggy underfoot). If tackling the section we covered, a buggy will suffice but i’d definitely recommend a bag or baby sling. Ensure you have change for the car park meter. Lastly, pack spare clothing for children (we needed it).

Overall, a pleasant afternoon experiencing Glasgow’s greener parts. The nice weather definitely helped. More posts to follow after future visits, where we’ll look to complete other routes.‬

‪A really lovely walk, just outside Milngavie so able to get the train there and find the walk. Managed to track around 7 miles with variations in the scenery. The castle was a nice surprise too.‬

‪We looked for a place for a nice walk with our dog. Some place nice, green and quiet. Found this park here online and thought it looked promising.

Came by car. Only a 40 minute drive from our BnB. Plenty of parking at the visitors centre at the main entrance. Free of charge.

And no charge to enter the park as well. There are some shops,
a coffee shop, a garden center, arts & crafts, toilets, a playground. Lots to do.

There are several paths leading you through the big grounds of this park. Some very easy and flat. Some more narrow and a bit wet after rainy days. Bring some good shoes to be sure.

We loved walking around the park with our English Bulldog. Lots of other furry friends to meet here. And a lot less visitors than one might expect.

A first highlight is the Craigend Castle. Or more like what remains of it. Now nature is taking it back and it's fenced off. Some part of me would love to see it restored. Bought I also understand that they like to keep it this way. Let nature take it back for a living place for various animals.

Then Mugdock Loch is another highlight. Walk around this beautiful quiet little Loch. Plenty of photo ops and benches for a picnic.
The Loch is also the place where you will find the Mugdock Castle. Some really nice remains. Very fun to explore. With tables to make a picnic. A really nice little castle.

We very much enjoyed our day here. Follow the map and the paths. Or just start walking and let yourself get lost a little.

Surprisingly it's free...something that wouldn't be possible in my country. Not an impressive park of this size with so much to see. A lovey place.‬

‪Lovely area of natural beauty convenient for Glasgow. Good for walking and admiring flora and fauna. Some interesting craft sales at the old "castle". There's a garden centre there as well; not huge, but interesting nonetheless. Excellent cafe / restaurant with good food. cheery staff, and prices not outrageous.‬
