The museum has some interesting exhibitions, but the experience was marred by highly inconsiderate guests treating the place like a fun house for their brat children. Upstairs in the gallery, two families of locals were lounging around on the floor while their spawn ran around the place yelling and screaming. It took my wife to berate them in Malay before they decided to leave. All while the useless guard and staff were right below, could hear it all, yet did nothing.

The first time that we tried to visit, the museum was closed without any notice. We should have taken this as a warning that other reviews here were hopelessly optomistic but we pressed on with a return visit. We shouldn't have bothered.
With the exception of one thoroughly helpful security guard, the staff were rude and utterly disinterested in helping. Apparently their handphones held greater appeal than their jobs. Perhaps if they looked up from their phones occasionally they might spot some of the screaming errors in the labelling around the museum.
Noting that this is one of the oldest, if not the oldest museums in Malaysia perhaps it is time to update a little?
Many of the preserved animals were in poor condition and the translations from BM to English, while plentiful were often hugely inaccurate. If the staff were receiving performance related pay then the majority of them would owe the museum money. This could be so good with just a little bit of effort on the part of the staff.
As Malaysia's border finally reopen to visitors, this is one to skip.

Despite being the oldest museum in Peninsular Malaysia, it has been maintained pretty well hence doesn’t look the least bit run down.
It holds a mixed bag of historical and archaeological gems with even remains of animals and artefacts. In our very honest opinion, the collection of old cars especially the Rolls Royce was the highlight of the visit especially for car enthusiasts. Other than that, it was really nothing much. The building however, is worth a couple of photos and selfies! We’ll leave you to be the judge of it!

This museum hold quite interesting artifacts, covers quite a variety of subjects from nature to history and even has Rolls Royce parked outside!!! There is a huge sign that says it's the first Museum in Malaysia. Worth the visit to understand some historical facts as well as to understand how things are produced

I just love the architecture of the building. Other than that, it was a small museum, nothing much to see inside.

This is a very educational and well-maintained museum. Established in the late 1880s, the Perak Museum is the oldest museum in Malaysia. It has a diverse collection of almost everything about Perak including a section exhibiting old animal skeletons. Walking through this museum is like a journey through time. In the main hall, there is a massive collection of niello-ware made from silver and copper (as we’re told by the museum staff). It is called Cutam in Malay. I’ve never heard a Malay word ‘Cutam’ before and that was the first time I saw Cutam. The cultural gallery displays local handicrafts, clothing, musical instruments and artworks aged more than 100 years old. Sometimes old stuff can be eery and interesting at the same time. We found one mannequin wearing vintage pink kebaya with weird head (see attached picture). Besides this ghostly feeling, we enjoyed our trip to this museum very much. Entrance is only RM2 per person.

The museum had exhibitions filled with Cars, Animals Bones, Trains and many more. Worth the ~30mins, if you're a fan of history

Entrance fee for non Malaysian is RM5.
Was not a good decision to walk to this place from town as there are no proper path on the side of the roads. If you have to walk please be careful.
Was a ok place to spend around 1-2 hrs.
Exhibits are fairly interesting. Good for a few photos as well

I think it is still close. It was under renovation when I went there last February, and was told it will be ready by June. Covid-19 might have delayed it renovation progress. Try check on its website.
我想问有关它的历史和资料
