‪Originally a Norman building, it oozes history and atmosphere. The stained glass East Window shows Jesus as King of Kings flanked by Saint Peter and Saint John and is by Edward Burne-Jones (1833-1898). There are also other large interesting windows, wall painting, font and an old graveyard. Under normal - non Covid - circumstances you can sometimes hear the church bells being rung during practices, services and weddings. A simple ‘green’ outside is flanked by the the Ancient Briton and Jolly Sailor public houses and if you listen carefully you can hear the sea - which is out of site about a half a mile away. A good stop whilst driving, cycling or walking.‬

‪Very picturesque little village of Newton which is just outside the main Porthcawl area. 2 pubs, village green, and a pretty, little church! Pretty in Summer, very lovely covered in Winter's snow!‬

‪Went to the pub opposite for a beer and just pop in to have a look round as I am interested in Ecclesiastical Architecture , but alas it was locked, a woman was doing the flowers for the Harvest Festival who let me in and explained that it has to be locked due to the location 'SAD'. When I went in I was amazed it is absolutely fabulous, Wall Paintings, Stained Glass and a very special, if not, a unique Pulpit, stone built into the wall with a magnificent carving of Christ on it. There are also the wall paintings which are also rare and amazing. The one carving for me is the Tree of Life just below the LHS Squint in the arch to the Apse. It also has an amazing churchyard very full of various styles of Graves, quite interesting, well to me.‬

‪I cycled here from Porthcawl and enjoyed a coffee at one of the pubs looking onto the green where you can sit outside.‬

‪11th century church location near the sea and Trecco Bay. Intriguing interior with Norman history about surrounding area. situated near the old Artician well and old sand dunes. Many people track family ancestry on grave stones here.Lovely services that mean something. Situated next to The Jolly Sailor many weddings have taken place here a favourite venue for local Parishioners also sister church to the Larger building in the town "All Saints" both very special to locals where they attend many Fares , Christmas, Summer fetes and other events in the church hall and on the Newton Green.‬

‪We went to the church to tend to my parents and grandparents grave recently.Whilst there I decided to look inside as I hadn't been there for a long time.I had forgotten how impressive the old church is.It's over 800 years old and the pulpit is very rare, being built into the wall.If you have an interest in old buildings in general, take a look at St Johns. You won't be disappointed.‬

‪On a recent Monday morning, Hubby and I took a short stroll from Trecco Bay caravan park (where we were holidaying) to this quaint little village. We walked across the green to explore this Grade 1 listed medieval church. It had a large clock tower. The bells chimed whilst we were there. Unfortunately, it was closed so we unable to look inside (or I would have given this an extra star). We walked around the large walled churchyard and saw headstones of local prominent people. We also noticed that there were graves of sailers and rescuers who had drowned in the nearby Bristol channel.

We then walked a little further down Beach Road to look at the Holy Well.‬
