‪Kitale Museum Review‬
بمفردك • فبراير 2020
‪This is a nice place to visit when you are in Kitale town. The 1km nature trail within the museum was the highlight of my visit. The trail makes for a quite and serene trail with birds chirping, stream flowing and peace.
The museum needs to be maintained, that is the homesteads, the snake park and all the other tourist attractions within the museum.
There was garbage behind the administration block, camp site and along the nature trail where the stream flows by.
Not just to bring out the problems, but also to offer solutions. The Kenya Museums and KWS should work with scouts to maintain parks and museums in exchange for a limited period of free visits for schools. The government should really conserve our beautiful tourist attractions.‬

‪Poorly kept place, the cages/spaces are tiny. The glass is dirty, and the crocodile did not have any water. ‬

‪A sad depiction of how we as Africans fail to maintain our great natural treasures and tourist attractions‬
نوفمبر 2019
‪Pros: The gallery has the only one on-going asset in the archaeological tour guide. His passion cannot be faulted in narrating our beautiful history through the ages past. His guided talk covers origins of the museum by the founding member, Lt Col. Hugh Stoneham collection giving you a glimpse of the British Imperial and colonial influence . This guide, Mr Wafula, is the only redeeming aspect of the museum secondary to the traditional homestead.

The traditional homestead is one great asset that has been maintained in this museum. You can relate to the way of life by early indigenous tribes persons to the archaeological narrative.

It was very disappointing to observe the decline of the bio-gas demonstration unit...it was non-functional and in fact one of the cows was in the late stages of dying without a vet at hand. Given how valuable biogas harvesting can be of value, it was unfortunate that this area of the museum has been allowed to fall into such decline.

The snake enclosures in the display cabinet areas are dilapidated with the only features worth checking out being that of the snake pit housing the python, tortoises and crocodiles. Even these areas require some beatification/improvements. The glass viewing cabinets could do with refurbishment.

The nature trail needs to be closed down as it is a serious safety hazard. The moss and algae eating away the designated slippery path competes with the plastic waste from drainage water channels that deposits all matter of waste in what ought to be an eco-system of the nature area.‬

‪Kitale museum works closely with Kenya National Museum mission statement.‬

‪the gallery is a collection of harnessed information transcending archeological ideologies, paleontology, entomology, mammology, and evolution. Harnessing this information into one rich pool is a critical undertaking in today’s research and lifestyle of different ethnic groups across Western Kenya. The gallery is host to amazing creatures that form the wider natural science. Depending on the need at hand, the gallery is a life lesson that impact on the visitors with a wide array of knowledge that touches on: ecology, botany, herpetology-study of reptiles such as crocodiles, Ornithology-study of birds, entomology- study of insects and butterflies, and evolution-study of the origin of man and species.‬

‪unexpected visit to a great museum‬
الأصدقاء • يناير 2018
‪We visited Kitale see an old friend Fr Leo Staples aged 92 and in Kenya for over 60 years . My wife spotted this museum as we travelled through the town .We found the staff very friendly and well informed .The exhibits were well presented and painted a good picture of what Kitale and the surrounding countryside was like fifty years and 100 years ago .We had the added advantage with Fr Leo living in the area for over sixty years he was able to confirm the backround to all the excellent exhibits of animals ,local dress, sports equipment ,musical instruments ,type of houses ,etc.
The one major difference from the present day is the number of wild animals that roamed the area fifty years ago .
This museum is well worth a visit .‬

‪Visited some time in October and did not disappoint, even for a non-conservationist, this is truly a must visit if you find yourself in this part of Kenya. Furthermore, its roughly a kilometer from Kitale town!‬
