We are the "research" types who need to "boil the ocean" before committing to anything. We first visited Murano in Aug and started with a luxury hotel organized "free tour" of a factory. As many people noted in their reviews of these "factories", this is a timeshare-type of scheme. We then toured the island and visited many shops. We returned this January for two days with a sole purpose of buying artisanal pieces of Murano glass. After going almost everywhere, we accidentally bumped into Seguso (actually were aiming at a place next door, which was closed). What a difference!
First, one needs to understand that late master Archimede Seguso was a bona fide top glassmaking artist, whose work was reviewed in many books and monographs, and whose pieces adore La Fenice in Venice, and a pope used his chalice...
Second, there is no pressure, no slimy salespeople, no inflated prices that are then "reduced" by 55%, and little room for haggling (we did get a discount for not shipping the product and for paying cash, but certainly not a s big as I was hoping for). Still, the piece that we bought from the Le Carnevale series is amazing. It might look somewhat simple compared to some other designs, but the interplay of colors, enhanced by the Seguso's invention. of an "eye" that then changes perceived colors depending on the angle of view, is just stunning. Furthermore, this is a piece by the artist himself from the '80's and he died in 1999.
Don't know much about the factory tour mentioned here; it was not offered to us, and it is not a part of the aggressive sales model of other "factories".

Seguso Murano is a hidden gem in Murano. We discovered the showroom with all the wonderfull pieces and they told us, that we could visit the factory ( NOT free of charge) which is nearby.
They have a great location and we really learned a lot of the history of venice and his historical connection to glass manufacturing.
It is not comparable to everything else you can see in Murano.
Of you are not the tourist who walks with an handystick, this is the place to go.
Wonderful expierence - thanks!

As an American, when I heard family business, I imagined 5 to 7 generations of a family in a trade. When we took our private tour at the Seguso family glass factory on the island of Murano, we experienced how this family has been an ingrained part of the history of glass making in all of Europe and particularly Venice. Their family was first documented as prominent glass makers in 1397. The United States, as a country, wasn’t founded for about another 380 years. The tour lead us through the history of the family craft, passed down from generation to generation, highlighting each generation’s mark on how their artisanal style impacted that particular era, both artistically and functionally.
The factory is where industry meets craft, design, history and one family’s connection to place. As we walked through, we saw each stage of the process, beginning with long glass rods showing different colours, swirls and textures made in house each week. In the forging area, as men moved silently and seamlessly as a team heating and sculpting, there was machinery, and exquisite artwork from each generation floating, standing and cooling. Rough edges of an industrial trade met breath-taking beauty in a way that we felt like we were taken into the passion of the experience of what is Seguso. Upstairs we saw a showcase of all of their work, both functional and artistic. It’s a story worth seeing, touching and being a part.
It’s pricey, but if your going to Venice once, and you want to understand Venetian glass as a craft, a family and how one family was a part of shaping history, it’s well worth the Seguso Experience.

What an incredible experience! From a short introduction on the history of Venitian glass to being able to watch the glass blowing process first hand, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
The passion and knowledge that Lucia shared with us made the visit even more memorable. The vast selection of examples was very impressive.
We would highly recommend the visit!

Lucia Marcolin was a superb tour guide as we toured the Morano Glass Factory in Venice, Italy recently while enjoying a sightseeing trip in Italy. The Morano Glass factory, a family owned business that expands centuries, is a magnificent example of pure craftsmanship. We learned the history of glassmaking as Lucia guided us through a timeline from the discovery of glass to today's current status. We were able to see master craftsmen at work creating extraordinary pieces of work. This is a must see experience.
Thank you,

This was an amazing experience, the highlight of our trip to Venice this time.
The history of the Seguso’s brought to life in the glass on display, the history of the evolution of the family and its work explained in such detail by Lucia.
To stand and watch a globule of molten glass become a beautiful vase in the hands of a master was captivating. all done by hand and eye, using basic tools that have not changed down the centuries. We were also privileged and lucky enough to meet Giampaolo Seguso whose insight into what glass is all about was absolutely fascinating.
This visit opened our eyes to what a living thing glass can be in the hands of a craftsman.
It changed completely how we will look at glass of all types in future, now understand a little of just what it takes to produce such items
An architect friend once said that every home deserves a piece of Venetian glass, our only problem now is that we saw so many wonderful pieces at Seguso, limiting choice to one piece is nigh on impossible!

A most highly recommended, non-touristy and authentic outing to appreciate the centuries of glass-making history and artistry embodied by the people, furnaces and galleries of the Seguso family of Murano. Truly special peek behind the curtain of a mystical process.

Hi, I have sent several email requests about this tour. I have not gotten any response. It looks like this shut down with COVID and it is not opened yet? Does anyone know when this will reopen? Thank you!

Hello,
We would like to visit your factory on May 28, 2017. We are 3 people. How would we get to the factory and how much does it cost for all three. How soon should we make a reservation. Thank you,
Annemarie

Contact them via their website which has a reservation form. They will reply with the availability, cost, etc. While it is somewhat costly we felt it was very worthwhile. They will pick you up in a water taxi. The return is on you - either by water taxi or the vaporetto.
