Hello Rob P Thanks for taking the time to review your day with us. We are glad you enjoyed your driving; I will address you points in turn. We currently do not offer refreshments unless pre booked however we do have bottled water, I apologise if this was not publicised on the day, will address this. ‘Not much tuition really, just mainly tell you when you do something wrong, but don’t teach you in advance’. On an experience day the drivers briefing is designed to impart some basic knowledge and explain some useful skills prior to the driving. All tuition is then given in-car as every driver’s level of ability and needs for tuition are different. I am sorry that your instructors’ efforts failed to improve your driving on this occasion, I will relay this feedback to the instructor. ‘Tyres pop every 5 minutes due to damaged tyres being put on cars’ On a dry and fast conditions day we will use 25-30 tyres across our fleet of cars. The punctured/damaged/worn out tyres are removed from the cars as required and replaced, you may have noticed the large stack of punctured/damaged/worn out tyres by our service truck, these were not being fitted to cars, these are the removed tyres awaiting to be stripped from wheel rims. ‘You get to push the cars pretty hard, the cars are pretty knackered, every panel is pretty dented’ We allow guests to push the cars hard and find/go beyond their limits. Did you loose control and spin the car, misjudge the level of grip, brake too late and hit a track marker or barrier? Most do, its’s part of the sport . We aren’t a venue which has a ‘1 spin’ or ‘hit a cone’ and your day is over policy. Drivers explore the limits and make mistakes, tyres/markers/plastic barriers get hit or run over which can dent the panels and crack bumpers, they are cars used for rally training, not show cars. Our rally cars are in service for over 6 hours per day (a 1 day UK competitive rally is on average 1 hour) and have an extremely high specification mechanically to cope with this level of service. ‘We ran out of tyres so had to use and escort with a broken gearbox’ If a car required tyres replacing/refuel/service check over during the day then we will often transfer to one of our spare cars temporarily while the mechanics service maintain the existing car. This saves delays and downtime. The broken gearbox I have been informed is a stiff select into 3rd gear, which will be remedied when the car is in our workshop. ‘Course is a bit confusing to learn, just random tyres on an airstrip’ Learning the course, that’s circuit racing! The sport of Rallying is about driving an unknown piece of road, with co driver, pace notes or maps as fast as possible while adapting to changing or unexpected conditions. This is what we create at our 2 venues, there is nothing random about the layout, and indeed we do make changes to the layout throughout the day as do conditions change with many passes of the cars through the loose surface. ‘No overalls provided so you do get covered in dirt’ Presumably you are referring to dust. The day you visited was hot, dry and dusty, while waiting there can be dust in the air with certain wind direction and the cars coming round the top part of the site, likewise it can be muddy in winter, it’s rallying. We do provide indoor viewing so I will make sure this is mentioned in the drivers briefing. ‘Quite a long day waiting and a bit hit and miss what cars will work on the day’ We offer half days and full days, the full day you attended did run to the scheduled time. Some guests don’t want to leave, some find it a long day, its personal preference, I guess. The cars ran faultlessly on the day you attended. Yes we maintain, service, refuel, replace tyres but had no significant repairs to make or removed any vehicles from service. The cars on site that are not in use are not broken or damaged, they are spare cars that can be used if required in the event of damage or fault to an in-service car that can’t be repaired quickly, hence I can’t really comment any further on the ‘hit and miss’ part. ‘No presentation or certificate as expected’ Each instructor debriefs their drivers, sometimes as a group and sometimes individually. I apologise if this was missed on your day, I will check with your instructor, certificates are given out at the signing on desk. Please contact us and I will post you the certificate if you did not collect on the day. We understand we will not please everyone, and I am sorry that the experience failed to meet your expectations, it would have been great to have been given the opportunity to discuss this on the day.
