It’s a lovely beach. Very safe yo swim with lifeguards. The toilet blocks had a refurbish recently so it’s much better.

We used to frequent this beach for years prior to covid and had many a wonderful time splashing in the water, the sea would be clear and clean, toilets still unsable and in general good condition....however, our visit over the weekend was a huge contrast to the Dunraven we had grown to love.
Toilets are closed but portal's available, ok, that's alright!
Beach... clean-ish at the top, near the rocks, pools murky whereas were often clear, but as you walk down to the sea it becomes very clear how much rubbish and pollution there is.
The sand was full of plastic rubbish, drugs bags, washed up wipes, the sea was even worse, it was like someone had dumped a Southerdown's and Ogmore's waste collection into the sea a d the smell was really off, like raw waste.
I know that the water was appatested early June but I honestly think it needs doing again, it was disgusting.
The water is not safe to swim in, nit with all the plastic and murk floating around.
Dogs- dogs sre meant to be banned from May 1st to end of September yet their were at least 9 on the beach and the guys taking your money are not challenging it.
Glamorgan, sort out the water, pollution and the regulations.
This was such a special place, now it is ruined.

Exceptionally beautiful beach and surrounding countryside.
However, Dunraven Estates and Vale of Glamorgan Council should be ashamed of themselves with all the money generated from taking our money for car parking of £5 and more and the TOILETS ARE AS DISGUSTING AS THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN! Small, doors without locks, dirty, smelly, unsanitary NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE!!
Wise up you money grabbers, you've lost us the 'blue flag status' all because of this. Shameful!!

My car was keyed in the car park here. Parked correctly in first bay next to hatched area leading to rocky part of beach. Reported to attendant but no CCTV.

This is a review for Dunraven Estates Properties Ltd who manage the overflow car park at the top of the hill and the toilet facilities. Visited yesterday and it was packed. Each car would have paid £5 which probably equates to well over £1000. The field has lots of massive holes in which mean you end up reversing a long way to retrace your route in order to not damage your car.
The toilets are not well kept - no soap or loo roll by the afternoon. It would be money well spent to maintain the upkeep of both of these areas. Little things go a long way.

I have been enjoying the beauty of southerndown beach/Dunraven bay for 52 years
For most of my adult life I've been keeping the beaches clean picking up after others and cleaning up crap that gets washed up along coastline
Generally litter picking all the way throughout vale of Glamorgan as it's my home.
I've done more than most die to being a hiker as I didn't drive until later in life .
Since they started charging down southerndown I've always payed ,even though it's expensive,I've still always payed .
For a single parent like me ,to go there sometimes five days a week at least you can imagine that's allot of money each week .
One day I didn't have cash on me
I genuinely forgot to take cash down with me this ONE DAY , so I let the staff taking money know I'd be back with the money and 48 hours later I went down beach and payed them the £5 for the other day and the five pound the day I was there .
They were incredibly rude to me both times very intimidating, one guy bangs hard on your vehicle if you have been there early dayrise and then comes over to get payment from you as I said in a very aggressive way.
There is one guy that works there who is always pleasant but the other guys especially the guy working in the shop there selling ice creams is very aggressive and very rude.
This has RUINED southerndown beach experience for so many .
People go to the beach to enjoy themselves or self heal . They don't expect to go there and be intimidated and spoken to like trash .
This is my own and many others experience of them .

We first visited Southerndown in August 2021 and were blown away by the beauty of the beach and The Three Golden Cups pub and camp site. In recent years we have visited several times with family and friends. On all occasions we visited by car, because the beach isn't accessible by bus. There is a charge to use the carparks, but you can stay all day. We prefer to park in the field, because the spaces are bigger, the views are fantastic and it's only a short walk to the beach.
Usually we arrive early with everything we need including cool boxes, pack lunches, umbrellas and beach chairs. Near to the carpark there are lifeguards, toilets and a small shop where you can buy drinks, snacks and ice-cream. If you don't bring a picnic there are some great pubs including The Fox and The Pelican Inn.
The bay is a sun trap, but can be rocky in places. This is a spacious beach that can get very busy especially on hot days. There are some great walks along the cliff and to the castle ruins. Along the way you may bump into the resident sheep. This is a great place for solo traveller's, couples, families and large groups looking for a cheap day out. We would recommend a visit all year round if the weather is dry

Really nice beach with towering cliffs similar to Jurassic Coast in Dorset.The tide was in when we visited on 30/1/2023.
The first car park you come to is Pay and Display but the lower car park is free.That is where the toilets are and the Heritage Coast Centre,which was closed at this time of year.Lots of walks all around but some of them are strenuous along the cliff.Fossils in the rocks are Devils Toenails,an extinct oystershell.I would think that in season it would be very busy.The car park is flat with about 30 spaces.The beach is stoney with large boulders.There is a slipway to walk down.Views are across to Devon opposite and to Porthcawl up the coast.

Dunraven Bay (Southerndown Beach) is a very popular beach that can become extremely busy especially on bank holidays, the weekends and the summer holidays. There is a long country road down to the beach, where there is a car parking attendant. At the beach there is a small car park with limited spaces, but there is a large overflow carpark in a nearby field. There is a charge to park the car, but you can stay all day.
The beach is quite small, but the sand is golden and there are some great rock formations. The rock pools are great for crabbing, starfish and small fish. If visiting Dunraven Bay, we would suggest bringing a picnic, suncream, drinks and beach toys, because facilities are limited. Onsite there are toilets and a small shop selling ice-cream, snacks and hot drinks. Meals are available at several pubs including The Watermill, Frolics and The Three Golden Cups within easy driving distance.
Above the beach is The Strand which is a cliff top walk with magnificent views. This is a great location for a picnic, but we would not suggest visiting with children due to the sheer drop from the Clif edge. There are some fantastic walks with great scenery and castle ruins. Within the vicinity there are also camping facilities. This is a great place to visit all year round.

We visited Dunraven Bay last Saturday, it was an amazing trip to a beautiful beach. The rock pools are super, we found some very interesting items including an intact Gryphaea, one of the genera known as devil's toenails. The beach is very clean and the sand leading up to the sea is soft. There is a beachside shop that sells hot and cold drinks and ice-cream, along with a picnic area for those with their own food. The rest rooms are clean and includes a room for those with mobility issues. The only downside is there is no-where on the beach front that sells a more substantial edibles, there are however a few pubs within a mile or so walk from the beach that serve decent grub. There is ample parking, but for those not steady on their feet or able to walk up and down unpaved terrain, or with a pushchair or toddling children, I would advise you drive down to the beach front and use the available parking....at £5 a day you cannot really go wrong.

Is there disabled parking and is it accessible for disabled?

Not sure about camping (never seen tents there) , but caravanning is allowed in the nearby farmers field.

The car park is not open. If the beach is more then five miles from your home - you cannot go there - we ae still in 'relaxed' shutdown.
Listen to the 1st Ministers advice

I know dogs are banned on the beach from 1st May, but are they allowed around the other areas such as the garden and cliffs?

Yes. Dogs are allowed in other areas, with the usual care, 'clean-up' etc.

Severa pubs nearby. The Three Golden Cups in Southerndown. Fox & Hounds St Brides Major. Lamb & Flag, Wick. The Star, Wick & The Plough & Harrow, Broughton.
Which definitely welcomes dogs. Also Cobbles in Ogmore is a licensed coffee shop/deli which serves light lunches & beautuful cooked Welsh Breakfast all day & welcomes dogs.
