We went with the kids (2 & 5) and the dog. Not a huge place but the kids loved den building, balancing on the natural obstacle course and climbing trees. Good few hours spent messing about. We were NT members but not sure the cost for non members.

Sadly the Trainer and the dog have passed on and the site is now very tatty.
Saw it working a few years ago, but now it is literally falling to pieces.
The staff try; but this needs major funding from the national Trust to save it.
The hoops need welding, the nets are ripped and the water course into the nets are weed infested and blocked.
Interesting walk around the lake could be anywhere though, work has commenced in re-planting, but nearly everything is rotten and falling down.
You can see the main lake from a couple of places, but it is very run down.
Without a live demo I can't see this surviving, sadly.
NT members, local area residents.

What a disappointment! Chap on the desk knew very little of the basis of the decoys, despite it being written on the few boards on the wall! (We explained this to him ;-) )
Saw no ducks (apparently, they have a whole 4 from time to time!).
Dull walk lasting 20 minutes or so. As NT members, we didn't have to pay, but if I'd paid I'd be angry! So not worth your time.

This is a nice stop for a walk. The route around the pond isn't too big but take your time and enjoy the surroundings. The duck Decoy is interesting to see and there is a brief history in the visitor centre.
It wasn't very well signposted. To get there, drive through the farmyard and up the track. Park in the field.

This is an unusual place, but is extremely peaceful and very pretty it is part of a National Trust venue. Is very well worth a visit, its of the beaten track, but you won't be disappointed with your visit.

A largish lake with a path round it and a collection of duck decoys - which are each a 'pipe' created by netted hoops that loop from the lake, getting smaller and smaller as they get further from the lake.
The idea is that the ducks are 'encouraged' into the pipe by a decoy man and a dog working together in and out of blinds along the pipe. The ducks can then be captured and dealt with as required.
A very nice place - and a very nice NT guy to give extra information and let you know what to look out for while walking round.

It's not the easiest place to find, well hidden, and involving a short drive through a farmyard and then along a rough track. Furthermore, when I arrived on a very warm Saturday morning the reception was shut so it was trial and error in finding the decoys. The good news is that the woodland paths were dry, level and well maintained and provides a circular tour of a small but picturesque lake.
In addition there's a small children's play area, a picnic area and car parking is on grass. For non NT members admission was £5.00 although there was nowhere to pay the money.

We took about 45 minutes to have a stroll around the duck decoy. Most of it is a woodland walk, rather than a lake-side one, but it's a lovely bit of woodland. They had a brilliant den building area which my kids loved. There were lots of interesting little bits to look at along the way. They're clearly doing some improvement works at the moment which are needed but I would recommend for a nice walk.

We had a pleasant walk around the lake. The lady and her dog who were in the reception were both very friendly. The lady spent a long time explaining it all to us. Our two-year-old son enjoyed the walk.

Basically this is a lake surrounded by woodland. It is a really interesting lake and the woodland is really nice, but if you don't like lakes or woods then this is not for you.
The lake itself was designed by 17th century engineers in such a way as to be able to capture wild ducks into netted areas. The woodland has some ancient trees, some areas for children's activities, and some charcoal burners.
The path is level and the walk is easy and could be managed with a wheelchair or a pushchair unless the weather has been very wet as the path could become muddy.
Information panels in the ticket shed show the history of the site.
Other facilities include car parking, picnic area, a bird-hide to view wildlife, and toilets.
There is no gift shop, no guidebook, catering, and very limited protection from weather.
