Our ride yesterday was brilliant, horses are bullet proof, incredible views and Sasha was great! Will defiantly be back, thanks again!

LOCATION - First, it’s a VERY long way down a forest track with potholes and narrow bridges. I don’t mean a few hundred metres: it’s Miles! If you’ve aspired to be a rally driver in your Subaru Impreza it’s just for you. If you haven’t or have a normal car - don’t go.
GREETING - Second, after the major effort of getting there, if you were expecting a “Warm Highland Welcome” from Sasha and the others, you’ll be disappointed. We couldn’t get our vehicle close to the parking ( if you could call it parking) as there were overgrown bushes preventing access. So, we stopped about 50m short. As we arrived we were greeted by a small dog jumping all over our Labrador ( our dog is a trained gun dog and was on a lead) the owners dog was just roaming free and intimidating the Labrador, who was clearly worried. I asked the owner of the riding school (Sasha) to call her dog, then I said it again - louder, then I had to shout it really loudly. Her reply after obviously attempting to ignore me as a newly arrived customer was, “ he lives here”. I said that wansn’t the point and eventually she called the dog. This muddy dog jumped up at most of the customers marking their clothing. The owner wasn’t interested. There was also a quite intimidating older dog that look very scary. If you don’t like dogs, don’t go.
SAFETY - Put simply - There isn’t any! Riding helmets out of date and/or with no date showing. Riders wearing no heal shoes eg trainers. No briefing talk. No first aid kits at the bas or with the leaders. No check that the out of date helmets were a fit. My daughter (now 17) has done a lot of riding and we know what’s right and what’s wrong with this stuff. This was ALL wrong.
HYGEINE - perhaps they just forgot about the pandemic? Or maybe they just don’t care. The “toilet” was a disgrace please see the photos. No toilet roll, a recycling toilet just flushing foul water around with no disinfectant . No hand washing facilities at all. I had to offer hand gel to other customers who are clearly as disgusted as me and my family. Empty sanitary products etc in an open Roses tin. It was unbelievably bad.
RUDENESS - The staff were just plain rude. Not just to us, but to other customers also. One Scandinavian woman arrived via the “wrong” route and was told off, before she’d even arrived. They had travelled from Inverness to get to this dump. Another pair had it explained to them at great length how their email wasn’t received, so it wasn’t the riding firms fault.
RIDING - my wife and daughter sat on a pony in the slashing down rain for 3/4 hour whilst others were put on ponys. The girths were left too loose. They were two pony’s short so went away for 10-15 mins to find more ponys. The ride itself was just boring up and down to a tarn. My daughter thought it a waste of time and disappointing.
SUMMARY - This is a case of locals in an area with not a lot of activities ripping off tourists. We’d booked it through Eagle Brae Log Cabins where we were guests and I was really surprised that they recommended it. Perhaps Mike and Pawana haven’t been there recently to see how bad it is. Please don’t go there and save yourself some money and a bad experience. I really, really can’t understand any of the more positive reviews. This is clearly an outfit run by disinterested local people, looking to make a few bucks from tourists who have little else on offer in the area.

Perfectly located in the Highlands. We had a really nice experience and Sasha (the owner) was very kind and joyful. The horses calm and well behaved and everybody can join this beautiful horseback ride.

Our first time in Eastern saddles!! Hugo was a love and Tilly was full of energy! This was a beautiful ride with gorgeous and well-loved ponies! Iain is a straightforward and standup guide, and you can tell he adores his ponies and horses. He takes amazing care of them and it’s important to keep in mind that there is a strict weight limit, for good and important reasons! The few negative reviews will mention “only being 6+lbs over” but the care and safety of these ponies come first. Can you imagine carrying +6lbs, +8lbs, or even +20lbs over your weight limit?! Read the website thoroughly and enjoy the awesome Highland views!! Thank you Iain for hosting us and sorry for stepping on your finger! 😅😊

Brilliant way to spend a couple of hours. Hosts were big characters, never a dull moment. Very welcoming and obviously cared deeply for the horses and environment in which they live.
As a beginner, i felt Sadie looked after me well and felt reassured as a little nervous to begin with. My husband is an experienced rider, and he and another couple had the opportunity to canter without me, which he appreciated.
Would highly recommend.

I don't think I've ever met such friendly horses - and the owners/guides were just the same! Spectacular scenery, but be prepared for a few miles of un-tarred roads after Tomich to get there - although it's DEFINITELY worth it! They were so helpful to us; my grandson had never been on a horse before, and he went off quite happily for a 1:1 led trek, which was just perfect. Cannot recommend highly enough.

I did this years ago with my then-partner. what a laugh and such a friendly couple they are. my arse was sore from the horse, my stomach from the laughing. I'm going again this weekend with my daughter after falling into the place after years!
I can't wait.
I had to put May 2023, I don't go back as far as I need.

Amazing horses, amazing views, and great history lesson from Ian. Never a dull moment from start to finish. Lots of history facts told along the way. The views are breath taking. The horses are so well cared for and well behaved. I've been many times and loved it more each time. They cater for all riding abilities. I highly recommend this place. You won't be disappointed

Great ride in the Highlands! Iain is knowledgeable regarding local history and a great story teller! Absolute riot! The ponies were all well cared for and seemed to enjoy their jobs. I would absolutely do this again!

I had such high hopes for a horseback ride in the highlands. I fought to have it included on our trip. It was the main thing I wanted to do to get out in nature in the highlands.
We arrived about half a hour early. Ian was rude right from the beginning! We started with we know we are a little early. Yes, yes you are and I am very busy so no talking. My sister wanted to ask if anyone else was going to ride with us. No even able to get out half the sentence he loudly said your talking not a word! No not a word!
We are from the states and are used to western riding so he gave a few instructions, but when I tried pulling back on the reins to stop my horse I was told not to do that. Just let her go she knows where to go.
I would have liked to have heard about the history of the land and the wildlife. A younger woman joined us on the ride. He talked pretty much none stop mostly to her. He spoke a lot about previous riders referring to them as the fat Pakistani woman or the Italian man that must have thought a lot of himself and seemed to be trying to impress his younger girlfriend. Then the best line……. The worse group to take out being the group behind him age 30-50 (we are all over 65) because they think they know how to ride. Don’t know if he didn’t realize we could hear him or that we were too stupid to know he was talking about us because of the age reference he chose. However the statement’ the group behind him’. Solidified the answer to that.
I tried to focus on the gorgeous scenery but it was hard to drown out all the talk.
In the end he tried to tell me how to dismount (which I have done numerous times) and he yanked my foot out of the stirrup. I should have kicked him in the face. I was completely disgusted by this point.

Hi, we are staying in Cannich the end of August. I just wondered how much it will cost for a 2 hour trek.
Thanks
