My fiance, Ethan, and I took the beginner freediver course and our instructor was Daniel. Ethan is already confident at swimming and I am terrified of deep waters.
At the beginning of our two-day course, I was not honestly confident that I could overcome my fear. I had expected that I would not be able to carry out the required rescue demonstration to get the certificate.
The two days of line training was the perfect length of training for me to overcome my fear. On our first day, Ethan reached 7 meters, while I reached 3 meters because I was way too in my head feeling terrified. However, Daniel provided excellent support and empathy for my fear, he knew how to encourage people, which gave me the confidence to keep going.
On the second day, Ethan reached 13 meters, while I reached 7.5 meters, which was a great achievement for me since I was terrified of deep waters. Daniel reminded me that relaxation is the most important when it comes to being able to go deeper and have a longer apnea.
I started as a person who was scared even with a life jacket on, but since May 2023, I have been confident about duck diving down to 5 meters without a line. Now, I no longer miss out on being able to explore more underwater since I am no longer held back by my fear. Ethan now has a stronger Frenzel equalization and is able to duck dive easily to 10 meters.
I hope to reach greater depths, strengthen my equalization, and come back again for the advanced freediver course.
One of the best parts of this experience is that our open water sessions were held at Diwata Lagoon in Paolyn Houseboats, and the second day was in an exclusive part of Barracuda Lake, away from the many tourists.
I am grateful for meeting the instructors of Freediving Coron, Daniel, Tex, and Cat, because they were passionate about helping people gain confidence in deep waters, and they truly provided instruction that is tailored to what Ethan and I were capable of.
I am also extremely grateful to Daniel for helping me achieve this. I will never forget the day I overcame my fear of deep waters.

Learning to freedive with Paula was an amazing experience! Her bubbly personality and the way her eyes light up when she speaks about freediving is contagious. Being able to do this course in Baracuda lake was the icing on the cake, amazing visibility to be able to take in the beauty of the tall lime stone structures streatchung to the ocean floor.

The training was one of the best, I’m an advanced open water scuba diver but once I’ve got the taste of Paula’s training with freediving I was amazed by what I was able to do with one breath during the course. It was very relaxing, definitely one of the most valuable life skills I learned. Thanks Paula!

I did my advanced freediving training with Paula. It was awesome! She is an excellent teacher and i was thrilled to see my own progress. Even though the training was intensive, there was never a lack of fun, patience and support. I highly recommend Freediving Coron. Around coron there are excellent dive spots.

I've been fascinated by freediving for a long time now, and since I was going to Coron, one of the most beautiful places to dive, This decision turned out to be better than I had anticipated. It was a challenge for me to go deep and equalize properly and be able to hold my breath for an extended period. However, with Paula's support and patience, I was able to achieve what just two days prior I thought was an impossibility for me--getting my level 1 freediving certificate. What an experience. This has translated to more confidence in the water and has helped my surfing as well. I do plan on continuing with more freediving experiences and if ever I'm in Coron again, I will definitely dive with Paula again. I strongly recommend you do as well.

This was a spontaneous adventure and I’m so happy that my intuition and some good energy made me walk into Paula’s amazing freedive instructors arms! She’s the absolute best. The sport and the locations are breathtaking. And so is she. Totally in her element. For real. Paula is an absolute pleasure to dive with. I felt super safe and comfortable. We had an amazing time and so much fun. The barracuda lake and the ocean around Coron are perfect for free-diving. If you are interested in the sport. Please do yourself a favor! Go to Paula. I took the beginner course with Freediving Coron and the experience was amazing. Paula, who is the owner is absolutely amazing, humorous and very informative. It was a short trip for me, so I did not have much time. They are kind enough to make it an intensive course for me, I was able to dive down to 20m, learnt to hold breath, relax, equalize, use the gears and apply safety by the end of the course. This is one of the best spending in my whole trip and the next day I was using the same skill to swim with the sea turtles.

A truly magical and inspiring experience!
Cat was absolutely amazing. I'm a retired professional snowboarder so I have a lot of experience with world class coaches. Cat is probably one of the best coaches I've ever worked with in any discipline. You can tell how incredibly passionate about teaching he is. Super no bullsh*t. Amazing at getting performance out of us (including my 60 year old dad! He took him down to 20m in one breath *impressed*). He's got an incredible eye at reading you and understanding how to build your confidence. When to push, when to pull you back. He's 100% there, present and focused on you during session. And he's continuously learning about how to explain concepts better so we all have a good grasp on the information. He shares what's relevant and keeps you focused on task. AND, he's hilarious and keeps things super fun / light. Funny guy.
As coaches go, I'm deeply impressed.
I was sad to learn that we were his last students at freediving coron. I'm super excited to see where he lands next and have already committed to coming back to take the next levels up with him. Without question!

I really recommend the beginner's course for anyone who wants to feel more comfortable in the water.
Freediving Coron were very nice and kind in their Customer Service.

What an incredible experience!!! My boyfriend and I enrolled in the two-day freediving course and had a thrilling time learning the basics and improving our techniques under Cat’s expert instruction. His enthusiasm for the activity carries into his teaching style, and he provided the right balance of support and encouragement for us to gain comfort with the skills and test our limits.
The classroom material was informative and interesting, and it was rewarding to pair it underwater as we honed our techniques in Barracuda Lake. I was able to gain more confidence and comfort in my abilities and become a more efficient diver. This helped me increase my breath hold times and maximize the enjoyment of the aquatic adventures we went on to do throughout our vacation. I never thought I’d be able to free dive to the depths that we accomplished in just two days!
It was an added unique and special experience to get to spend so much time in Barracuda Lake away from the mass of tourists. The lake itself is incredible and a perfect location for this course. The water is warm (with a bonus thermocline when you hit that depth!), visibility is far-reaching, and the underwater cliff formations are impressive. The lake’s resident barracuda kept us company for one of the morning sessions, which was pretty cool.
I highly recommend this course. The instructors are terrific, the knowledge is valuable, and the experience is extraordinary.

I have no experience in diving. We have a trip to Coron and would like to try free diving. Can my 15 years old son join us for beginner’s class? How do we sign up? What’s your website?
