This was one of my favorite experiences in Pico! If you are an active person and enjoy a unique experience, rent a bike from Pico Bike!
I was dropped off in central Pico, at Lagoa do Caido. I made my way to Sao Roque on the coast and explored the village a bit. Unfortunately I got a flat but they came right away to fix it! I was on my way and rode by natural pools, coastal villages, and the UNESCO vineyards. I stopped in Lajido Cachorro for lunch and liqueur tastings before making my way back.
The owners are extremely kind and helpful, offered multiple route options.
My route was perfect for me - someone who is active but doesn’t have a lot of biking experience.
Lose the rental car for a day and bike!

We rented two mountain bikes at Pico Bike for one and a half days and can only say that we had a great day out with very new and reliable material. It would have been a big regret to miss the experience to cycle on Pico.
The owners are very open for recommendations and professional in how they treat their bikes. We took their offer to drive us up to the highlands so that we just had to make the 65 km back to Madalena. From there it is a beautiful journey down hill before you have to some exercise from São Roque to Madalena passing through Arcos and Lajido villages.
At first it seems expensive to rent bikes (compared to car or scooter rental) but it is definitely worth it.
The owners are very open for recommendations and professional in how they treat their bikes. We rented 7 bicycles from Pico Bike for a full day of exploring this beautiful island.
The bikes were band new, included all different sizes, from a tall adult to young children, and were all professionally prepared and adapted for each user's size and abilities.
The owners provided us with well designed maps and itineraries of the different routes we could explore, and went out of their way to give us some great recommendations.
As a result, we had a wonderful day and enjoyed this different way to discover the island.
