Fabulous place up in the mountains. I have always loved donkeys so felt this was well worth the extra miles to go there.

A little way off the main road, but good directions online. 32 donkeys & about 100 cats being looked after, when we visited. No admission charge to enter & wander around amoungst the animals.although a donation to the costs is appreciated. you can take a brush and brush the donkeys.

If you have a thing for animals and donkeys in particular, this is a must see for you on Corfu. Volunteers making every effort to help abandoned and neglected donkeys. You can walk around freely between the donkeys, pet and brush them if you like. Just bring a facemask, they are still mandatory (october 2022). Dont let the last 100m of road hold you back, it is a bit bumpy but driveable with any car.

Sehr nette Leute, die sehr sorgsam auf die Tiere schauen. Ein Erlebnis für alle Tierliebende. Die Farm darf komplett betreten werden und die Esel dürfen mit Streicheleinheiten oder auch Bürsten verwöhnt werden. Für uns war es das Highlight von Korfu.

What an amazing place doing such wonderful things. Very humbling to see these.poor.souls, but so great to see how they are now being cared for. This is a real working sanctuary and a big well done to all that work there 👏

Het is heel fijn dat dit soort projecten bestaan. De ezels, katten en honden worden met liefde verzorgd. Het is zeker een must om hier een bezoek aan te brengen tijdens je vakantie aan Corfu. Je mag er vrij rondlopen. De dieren worden graag aangehaald door de bezoekers. Bij de uitgang kun je een donatie doen en dat komt zeker goed terecht.

La mia fidanzata, amante degli animali, ha scoperto l'esistenza di questo rifugio per animali feriti e quindi ci siamo ritagliati una mattinata per fare visita a questa fattoria.
Le personale che vi lavorano salvano gli animali feriti con una attività di volontariato totalmente gratuita.
Ci sono moltissimi gatti, tutti docili e affettuosi da poter carezzare e coccolare, anche cani salvati dall'abbandono e poi gli asinelli che sono stati curati e salvati che girano liberamente nella fattoria.
Tutti gli animali possono essere accarezzati e strigliati, sono molto docili e abituatissimi alle persone quindi ci si può avvicinare senza timori.
Si può girare per tutta la fattoria senza limitazioni di tempo e totalmente gratuitamente, all'uscita c'è la possibilità di lasciare un offerta gratuita per aiutare a mantenere la struttura in attività e prestare le cure alle bestiole.

I’ve lost my heart to this rescue. I knew before I went I’d fall in love & be emotional, Greece is (sadly) known for its mistreatment of Donkeys in particular, over working them & putting them in unsafe & horrible positions, so I knew when I was booked up for Corfu I had to go here, we were staying in Kanoni which a bit of a distance away, we spent over €100 on a round trip, but boy was it worth!! I cannot recommend this place enough for animal lovers & those that want to help a good cause. Hamlet & Devlin in particularly are so cuddly & affectionate, but all of the donkeys are gorgeous & friendly. Evidently they’re all well looked after by the hardest working volunteers, they have so many cats too & I spotted one with a poorly eye & I asked if they were cared for too & I was reassured that they were and there was actually a few who had sore eyes (fighting, dust etc..) but were receiving medication & treatment. I would recommend taking some cat & dog food with you, there’s not as many dogs but when we visited there’s over 100 cats! Some of the cats are also super friendly & just wanted to be cuddled, I sat down for a drink & I had one on my lap instantly! A little later on a sat down to sort my shoe & in seconds two were curled up on my lap, I tried to move and had to pick them up, one however kept jumping back on me & followed me around for ages just wanting to be loved & cuddled, it breaks my heart I couldn’t just do that all day or even slip them in my bag to bring back to the UK! There’s a donation box but not once once it forced, just simply ‘if you wish to there’s the box’ we weren’t watched like hawks or forced in any direction, we just got to be amoungst all the donkeys, cats & dogs for as long as we wished. This is such a fantastic rescue & I cannot even begin to plea for you all to visit, donate & give those gorgeous animals some love & affection!

Well worth taking the time to visit if you are any kind of animal lover. We had noticed the demise of the donkey in Corfu during our visit, but it is welcome to see where many have ended up over the years, now receiving some much deserved love and care in their later years. You can groom them and they love a good brush. All donations help and they can take euros and pounds. Please leave what you can to fund this fine work supported by generous volunteers giving up their time. A few bigger signs from the main Paleokastritsa road would be helpful.

It's 19 kilometres from Agios, that's about 36 minutes , be aware there is only a small sign on the road for the turn off that leads you to the donkeys
How far from the cruise port is this sanctuary and what’s the best mode of transportation to get there please?

Has anyone had any luck with using a taxi from the cruise port in Corfu, to the sanctuary, and back again? If so, could you recommend a specific taxi service? Thank you.

Should be easy getting there as there are taxis outside the port. Not certain about getting back as the sanctuary is in the country side. Send an email to the sanctuary and I'm sure they can advise

No, there are no goats, will see plenty running aroung Monastery though in Paleo.The Donkey sanctuary is a good place to visit and free of charge, but they rely on donations.

Hi , it's about 29kms from Benitis, which takes approx 50 minutes , it's free to visit and you can make a donation if you want to, take some carrots to feed the donkeys they are adorable, it's well worth the visit the staff are amazing , only thing is it's quite hard to find , signs are small so plan your trip before you go ☺

Can you please tell me how far from Sidari the Donkey Sanctuary is and can you get there by taxi if it's a bad road?

Hi, it’s not far from sidari and you can take a taxi up to it....we took car most of the way and walked for 5mins but you can get cars right up to gate.

Qualcuno sa dirmi se c'è qualche volontaria che parla italiano? Sarò a corfu a fine agosto e volevo passare per fare una piccola donazione, ma prima volevo mettermi in contatto con le volontarie per sapere se posso portare qualcosa di utile agli asinelli già dall'Italia. Grazie a chi mi risponderà.

Ricordo che l'inglese è la lingua prevalente con cui si comunica lì ma dipende dalla provenienza dei volontari del momento anche. Alcuni dei visitatori hanno portato del cibo per gli asinelli, che poi magari davano nel contempo, e lasciato una donazione.

Hi,
We used the phone's GPS and we easily found the Donkey Rescue.The road leads you to a narrow one through olive-woods,don't think it's a wrong one despite the remote area you'll get there.You can find a small but nice parking lot just in front of the entrance.Also if you see sings saying something like "donkeys on the road" you're definitely heading towards it :)Hope you'll have a great time there!Nora

I am staying at Arillas in September and am wondering if you know of any tour agency that stop off at Donkey Rescue as part of tour and continue elsewhere.

I am sorry I am not sure about that one. We used a local tour operator on our visit to Corfu and it didn’t come up on their list of trips out.
We had a hire car and it is a little “off the beaten track” but if you get the chance to go it is lovely and the work they do a real good cause. It is free - the volunteers engage with visitors and answer questions and the visit is not rushed.
