Stablished on the way of Sanchi Stupa. This is a good time line travel of history
Ticket - Applicable.
No food items allowed in the main building
Must wear easy shoes and cotton clothes .
First go and visit Sanchi Stupa on top of hill area then visit this site . so you can very easily understand the things and relaxed in shadow areas
This is not so big but very good and maintained , the outer garden area is also very fine and good for relaxed after visit hill top area.
Fine Artefacts and sculptures preserved and collected here. Most of the museum's objects are from Sanchi itself while the rest few are from its neighbouring villages including Vidisha, Gulgaon, Gyaraspur and Murelkhurd.
Also known as Sanchi Museum, the Archaeological Museum was established on the hilltop in 1919 by Sir John Marshall. Later, the Archaeological Survey of India acquired a college building at the foothill of Sanchi Stupa

The first thing to note here is that your entrance ticket to the Sanchi Buddhist Monuments also gets you into the museum, so hold onto it. They will definitely ask for it.
The museum has three rooms of sculptures from the Sanchi area and many of them are very impressive. The highlight is a magnificent Ashoka-era lion-headed capital with a vitreous sheen. Some of the sculptures of Buddha's, Boddhisatvas and Hindu deities give it a run for its money. A fourth room contains some interesting photographs of Sanchi prior to restoration.
Half an hour should suffice here for most visitors.

Sanchi museum is located near main Sanchi stupas site. It is a single floored white building with a compound of lush green lawns and shady trees. The Museum was established by Sir John Marshall in 1919, when he was Director General of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). When planned excavation work was started under supervision of Sir John Marshall, need for museum arose to properly store and showcase the actual findings thus museum was made in small building.
Sanchi museum comprises of four galleries and one large central hall. Here variety of sculptural artefacts have been showcased for public view. These articles are from Sanchi and its nearby Buddhist and Hindu sites like Vidisha, Gyraspur, Murelkhurd etc.
Among them most well known exhibit in the Sanchi museum is the Ashokan capital displayed in main hall. This piece of sculpture shows four-lions seated back-to-back and once topped Pillar No.-10 in Sanchi. It reminds us of lion capital of Sarnath. This image of four-lion is taken as national emblem of India.

On the way to Sanchi Stupa, this museum is at the foot of the hill on the left and is a good one. I would recommend to plan your visit to this museum on the way back from Sanchi Stupa. The ticket for the same is included in the one for Sanchi stupa and separate ticket is not required. There are various interesting artifacts on display here like lion pillar and meditating Buddha.
There is a big lawn around the museum building to relax a bit under the sun. The car parking is on the road side and not the best but ok.

The museum has all the sensitive /broken/missing and discarded items of the Stupa and the famed Ahoka statue. It is worth to visit at the place instead of missing. The same tickets for visiting the stupa can be used for the entrance of the museum

Most people visiting Sanchi will probably be aware of its history, but the museum puts the 'meat on the bones'!

This is one of the best ASI museums that have been built close to various sites of historical importance by ASI. The museum houses various statues and carvings unearthed during excavation at different sites around Sanchi. The exhibits are very well displayed , labelled and have good information boards. The highlight of the museum is the magnificent Ashoka emblem of four lions pointing in the cardinal directions kept on display here.
