Visited on Ayilyam Day so was crowded. So parking space was limited but available. You pass by the side of the famous stepwell pond to the temple. The Pond is a must see due to its geometrical design. You can dip your feet before you proceed to the temple. Lord Subramania is in serpent form in the temple. Lord Ayyappa is just outside the main temple. Egg is the main offering here to get rid of Sarpa Dosha.

Beautiful temple with a silent ambience about it.The pond adjacent is an architectural marvel. It also has so many fish which you can see in the clear water and which nudge against your feet when you stand on the steps. Both places are very clean and well maintained. No pujaris pushing you around. You pray as you wish.We were lucky to view theyyam over there.Made the visit complete.

Peralassery Subrahmanya Temple is one of the beautiful holy shrines of Kannur district, situated around 16 kms from Kannur city on the Kannur-Kuthuparamba road. An ancient temple, it is popularly believed that this place of worship was built by Lord Rama himself. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Subrahmanya. This temple is also well – known for its stepped temple pond that has countless steps laid in unique and intricate geometrical proportions.
The story of this temple is connected to the epic Ramayana. It is believed that During Lord Ramas Vanavasam (the 14-year-long exile in forests), Lord Rama along with his brother Lakshmana and Hanuman, reach the south in search of his wife Sita, who was abducted by Ravana. And during their journey, they reach Peralassery where Lord Rama felt the presence of Lord Subrahmanya there. Lord Ram wanted to install an idol of Subrahmanya. But Hanuman, for some reasons, fails to turn up in time with the idol for the consecration. Upset by the delay, Sri Ram is said to have removed his bangle and placed it on the pedestal where the idol was supposed to have been placed. When Hanuman arrives with the idol, Sri Rama places it on top of the bangle he had already consecrated. Thus, the place where a huge bangle is placed came to be known as Peruvalasserry, (Peru-Vala; Means Huge Bangle in Malayalam) and with the passage of time it became Peralassery.
It is also believed that before Lord Sri Ram consecrated the Subrahmanya idol in the temple in Tretha Yuga, this was an Ayyappa temple. Now there are two temples in the same compound, one for Ayyappa, and another for Subrahmanya. The other deities in the temple include Ganapati, Naga, and Bhagavathi. The Naga deity attracts devotees in large numbers who come to this temple to get rid of Naga Kopam or Dosham. Every month, on Ayilyam day, as per the local Malayalam calendar, this temple bustles with ardent devotees who come to make offerings to snake gods.
The main offerings made in this temple are that of Subrahmanya Pooja and Mutta Oppikkal which is the offering of eggs to the snake.
An important annual attraction is the eight day Kodiyettam festival that is celebrated in the month of December. Thousands of devotees from all across Kerala and also from neighbouring states visit this temple during this festival season.. A dip or wash in the impressive Chira or Pond followed by a visit to this temple leaves a soothing impact on the devotees.

This is an old step well outside the Subramanya temple. The ancient temple tank looks beautiful and especially counting the number of years back this was built it in. The temple is clean and houses Lord Subramanya and Ayyappa as deities.

The idol of Lord Subramaniam is said to be installed here by Lord Ram itself. The temple still follows the age old traditions. The beautiful temple pond is spectacular. They have separate area for Nagas and egg is the main offering there.

Peralassery Sri Subramanya Temple is 15.9 km from Kannur town. The principal deity is Sri Subramanya. The massive temple pond is world famous.
According to folklore, Sri Subramanya had visited the area in the form of a snake. Later, Sri Ram, in the company of Lakshman and Hanuman, undertook a journey to South India in search of his wife Sita. They reached Peralassery and Sri Ram sensed the presence of Sri Subramanya. He then decided to install an idol of Subramanya there.
Other deities in the temple include Ayyappa, Ganapathi, Naga and Bhagawathi. Offering of hen’s eggs to snake gods is a key feature at Peralassery Sri Subramanya temple. Devotees also proffer milk, water, and yellow rice to the serpent gods.
The temple pond is immense. It resembles a baori which is a type of stepwell found in parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi and Karnataka. Steps go down to the water in the middle. The architects have used laterite stones in the construction.
There are many idols of King Cobra in the temple because the main deity is the serpent form of Sri Subramanya. Eggs are offered to the main deity as a part of pooja procedure. Devotees can also perform pooja to get rid of sarpa dosham.
Believers can submit miniature cradles in the hope of begetting a child or heir.

The temple is outstanding but the pond outside the temple is out of the work and is a photographer and selfie crazy person's delight. You could spend around 45 minutes here, depending on the crowd.

Kannur is famous for its temples and this temples is one among the top. Considered to be one of the very powerful temples. Subrahmanya is the main deity here and people also worship snakes by doing Nagapooja. Recently this temple's pond has become an internet sensation because of its architectural style. Always loved the unique payasam prasadam from this temple.
