Long unending stretch of beach fun in pleasant weather conditions. Suitable for long walks along the shores. Perfectly visible from the atop the adjoining Lighthouse.

The Payyambalam Beach is an impeccably maintained destination in Kannur. This secluded location is known for providing one with the opportunity to simply relax or enjoy a family picnic in absolute tranquillity. Surfing and swimming options are also available for those who seek a little adventure. Being close to Kannur town has made it a favourite haunt for tourists and locals alike.

This crescent shaped beach is right in the city and is one of the attractions of Kannur. There is no beach life here . Almost all visitors come here to enjoy the gentle breeze and view the sunset. So much can be done here to promote the beach but nothing is done here.

The Payyambalam Beach is one of the best known beaches in Kannur. Also known as the 'Walking Beach' because of a 4 km long stretch of golden sand for beach walkers. It is what we visited on our first evening in Kannur. A secluded location it is known for providing one with an opportunity to simply relax or even enjoy a family picnic in absolute tranquillity. The beach is a favourite hangout for locals.
The entrance to the beach is a narrow bridge over a small canal and immediately on the right is an area where monuments to commemorate the lives of local political leaders is erected.
A cliff forms a natural barrier on one side atop which is a beach garden which needs maintenance. The beach is not very crowded, but one can always find secluded spots due to the long stretch of sand. Though good for swimming and sunbathing it is not like the beaches of Goa. One may feel comfortable to confine to the local dressing code.
The biggest bug bear of this beach is the lack of parking space. Most park their vehicles on the sides of the narrow road thereby cluttering it. A public parking space exists sightly inside, which is just where we pushed in our vehicle, but yes there is an issue for parking.
Overall a very nice beach and a must visit for anyone who wants some ME time.

Nice beach, I got less crowd even during Christmas break. Kids friendly. Walkway separating the beach and the payyambalam beach Road is good. No public toilets in the vicinity.

Beach was ok ok . Water is smelling very badly just like drinage water. Color is also in black only.

Beautiful, wide, shallow, less crowded, these are the words I would use to describe this beach. Great for kids, couples, families.

It's a nice beach for relaxing. But it's crowded on weekends and holidays with locals. So if you are a tourist visiting, please visit on weekdays early mornings or evenings for a peaceful beach experience. This beach is situated 1km. From Kannur City and Kannur Railway station and is accessible by autorickshaws or by Bus. Please check for bus timings. People are friendly and cultured and humble and keen to help you around. You will have a totally different experience here in this small town of Malabar state, especially if you had some experiences visiting the neighbouring South Kerala state which is infamous for its feudalistic and rude Madambi culture.

Calm, quite and neat beach. Liked it at the first sight itself. Very good for a family specially for kid, not crowded and hence can enjoy it to the fullest. Beautiful sunset view.
