Madayipara is a flat topped hillock located in the Madayi, of Kannur district of Kerala state in the Southern India. It is overlooking Payangadi town on the northern bank of Kuppam river. It is popular being the site of the Madayi Kavu (Thiruvar Kadu Bhagavathi Temple) of Goddess Kali, Shakthi, the Vadukunnu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Shiva temple of Madayipara was razed by followers of Tippu Sultan in the 18th century. However, now it has been rebuilt.
The area is also known for the Malik Ibn Dinar mosque, which is believed to have been originally built by Malik Ibn Dinar, a Muslim preacher. The remnants of a fort built also is present here, and the part is known as Kottakunnu.
The place is rich in biodiversity and many more rare species are located here

Be it sunny days or rainy days, you can enjoy this place.. Vadukunda Siva Temple and Madayikkav is very near to Madayippara. There is Jewish Pond also.

Madai Paara literally is a huge, huge laterite rock which measures about 600 acres. This place is not for people who seek adventure, It is a place for nature lovers.This small place and its surroundings are different from the surroundings. This is also a great for lepidopterologists ( study of moths and butterflies). If one come here during the right time one can see some of the worlds largest butterflies. It is a sight !!!! The place also has an ancient temple dedicated to goddess Kali and a fort. One can also see the sea which is far away due to its slight elevation. History also says that this place had hosted ancient Jewish settlers . The name of the small but famous perennial Handheld mirror shaped pond which has never gone dry is even now called Jewda Kulam (Pond of the jews) and the centre of Ezhimala kings and their administration. The laterite hills of Madayi also home of many many species of rare plants and flowering plants. The sunset from here is something that one should not miss. The Madayipara is best visited just after the rains when everything is green and life in this place is at its best.

Located at an altitude of about 47m above sea level in Pazhayangadi town of Kannur district, Madayipara offers certain unique attractions to everyone who visits this picturesque 600 acres of laterite plateau hillock in any season. The carpeted ground flora fascinates whenever one visits the laterite hillock. The fresh grass that sprouts soon after the new rain, covers Madayipara with a lush green carpet. This is followed by the flowering season and then from November to January, the whole plateau looks pinkish purple and later blaze in gold and then turn brownish. While certain flowers like the Kakkapoo (Lobelia alsinoides) that provide the blue and white carpet are seasonal (during the Onam season), the more common ones like the Polycarpaea corymbosa and Leucas aspera remain till the summer even. In extreme summer the grass on the rock begins to crumble, and is often burnt. The name ‘Eripuram’ for the eastern side of the rocky plateau (the Land of Burning Fire) may probably be due to these burning incidents.
History says that the Greeks, the Jews, the Portuguese and the Arabs have had their camps set up near this place and such remains stand testimony for these claims. For instance, the perennial pond 'Jutha Kulam' (the Jew's pond) is one, which the locals believe, bear witness to this history. Similarly, the few remnants of the Pazhayi Kotta (Old Fort /Madayi-kkotta) found towards the south-eastern side of the hillock is a testimony of the Kolathu-nadu kings. Madayipara, has once been an administrative hub of the kings of Ezhimala and Tippu Sultan is said to have signed some treaties near here with the British. It has been the headquarters of King Udaya Varma (1446-1475) of Kolathunadu and Cherusseri Namboothiri, the author of Krishna Gatha (a landmark in the Malayalam literature), was a court poet of Udaya Varma. The recitation of Krishna-ppaattu in Chingam month is still quite common today. The Palayam Maidanam (ground) in Madayipara is referred as the place where Hyder Ali and the army had camped during 1765 -1768 and there seems to have been a war during Tippu’s invasion here at Palayam Maidanam.
Major attractions on the hillock:
The whole table-top hillock with its unique biodiversity, scenic beauty and panorama (with seasonal variations) itself is a splendour.
The enchanting views of the Pazhayangadi township from the hillock, with adjoining Kuppam river (the Pazhayangadi Puzha) and the bridge.
The Ruins of the Madayi Fort, built by the Vallabha King of the Kolathu dynasty on the south-eastern side of the Madayipara. The view of the surroundings (as well as the trains passing by and the road traffic) from here is fascinating.
A thematic clay sculpture said to be erected here by the famous Artist & Sculptor of this part of Kerala, KKR Vengara.
A few ponds and wells scattered here. The Jew's pond (the remains of the ancient Jewish settlers) that always contain water in it and a couple of square wells that gets filled only in the rainy season are notable.
Madayi Sree Vadukunda Shiva Temple.
The Vadukunda Lake adjacent to the Vadukunda Shiva temple that never dries.
Thiruvarkadu Bhagavathi Temple (Madayi Kavu), considered to be the Mother of all Bhadrakali (the Fierce form of Bhagavathy) temples in North Kerala.

Madayipara is very close to Pazahyangadi town and about 26 Km North of Kannur & 15 Km away from Taliparamba. Very well connected by buses and trains to Pazahyangadi from where plenty of auto rickshaws and taxis are available for hire.
The National Highway 66 from Mumbai, Panaji, Udupi and Mangaluru towards Taliparamba, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram is just 14.5 Kilometers (about 20 min. drive) North of Madayi at Pazhayangadi Road/Pilathara-Pappinisseri Road. The nearest Pazhayangadi Railway Stations is about two kilometres.

History:
This Temple is believed to have been built by “Kolathiri” Kings during medieval period on a plateau land generally known now as “Madai Para” in Madai Village, Pazhayangadi, Kannur District, Kerala State. This is situating 22 km north of Kannur, the Head Quarter Town. Shree Vadukunda Siva Temple was constructed on “Madai Para” in the southwest corner of it at a holy spot due to the presence of the divine power of “Swayambhoo” of lord Siva.
Plenty of open area available around the Temple (soft rock) which means no problem at all for parking.
The Temple, opens at 5:45 am and Closes at 12Pm, again open at 4Pm and closes at 8 pm.

I went there after photographing the Theyyam festival whole night. The air was so fresh around here. Since it was January so the place was all brown and we did not see post monsoon beauty of the place. But even then it was nice to breathe fresh air which drains the tiredness out of body.

This located near Pazhayangadi about 35km fro Kannur in Kerala. It is known for it's Flora and fona. I visited this place in peak of mansoon in Kerala. It was locally stated that except in this season it offers plenty of flowers carpeting the Rocky (laterate)area. There is temple namely Madayi kavu. The property is under temple administration. There is a Siva temple at the far end of the area. One of it's kind. This gives a glimpse of the great Valley of Flowers in Utharakhand which I visited in 2015.....
