Very interesting attraction. Visited in the past and not much has changed. Set in the 1950-80s during the cold war. Some of the commenty is a little scary about what might have happened during a nuclear attack so probably not suitable for young/sensitive kids.
Cafe if basic but functional.
Pay on exit via self service tablet or cash honesty box.
Very good place to visit during a heatwave but remember your jumper as it's cold.

My two grandchildren found it 'scary' and wanted to get through it as quickly as possible, especially the 5 year old: the mannequins looked like cadavers and the lighting was really dim. The lack of slickness has somewhat of a charm but it could do with an army of 'friends of the Bunker' to go through and renew the notices, refresh the exhibits and check they are appropriate to the time the bunker was in readiness. I'm sure the information was excellent but I didn't get to hear much as the children didn't want to linger. The bunker has so much unfulfilled potential.

Great experience to go with a partner or family.
Very cold as underground.
Got a walkie talkie phone at the start which tells you information around the tour. however this is extremely quiet and each person has to have one each. Would be better if there was one loud one per group.
It also would've been very easy to walk out and not pay. No one really checks and when you do pay you do it yourself so could put any amount in on the card machine with no one watching. Unfair for the honest people really. It also says you have to pay £5 for any photos. I wanted to take photo's of a lot but didn't want to have to pay, however once I got to the end I don't know how they would've known this.
Overall though I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Went there for reserach purposes (I'm a museum curator) and was gravely disappointed. In the entry area, the whole presentation is unwelcoming, suggesting that the use of the very poor audio guides was compulsory and threatening a ridiculous £5 "Photography Permit" charge. Going through the three floors of the bunker itself, the written interpretation material looks like it was put there in the mid 1990s and hasn't been touched since - it was all tatty laminated printouts that just shouted "Amateur". All the Audio-Visual material was third-rate, usually with a note pinned near to the screen apologising for how bad it was! Many of the items on show were in poor condition, some had little relevance to the story and very little of it had any written interpretation material nearby to explain what it all was.
The whole place smelled damp and dirty - I felt the need for a good wash on leaving the place. The "Canteen" at the end is a joke - you pay for things on an "honesty box" basis (ie we can't be bothered to have someone there to serve you) and even the entry fee (cash preferred) is just paid the same way at the end of the "tour". To make it even worse, the proprietor was sitting at a table in the canteen when I left - he could have been engaging with the visitors but couldn't be bothered, preferring to play with his phone.
A waste of a morning - will not be coming back.

I came on my own as I'd heard about it through The Bunker Game. Very interesting place which few of my friends have heard of it. Audio tour was very interesting and hardly any other people when I came on a Thursday so I had the site pretty much to myself which was a bit creepy. Would definitely recommend especially on a warm day as it is cool inside - might want to have a jumper handy...

As an ex-Cold War nuclear bomber pilot, I found the site quite fascinating. But it could do with some tidying up and dust removal here and there.
Nice and cool on a sweltering Jul 2022 heatwave weekend though!

The experience is an eye opener to these hidden sites, this not a human guided tour but it is an audio tour which guides you through the bunker and works on an honour system which you pay for entrance at the end beware you are on cctv and to take photos you need to pay extra as this is not included in entrance fee.
During the route there are toilets locate at the farmhouse entrance and in the bunker itself.
Locating the site can be a little difficult as only signposted at the entrance way best too locate it on Google earth before coming then easier when you get there
Site can be access by disabled people via pre arrangement and there is a stair left to a lower level but there are steps working from the lowest level up on the tour and there are bannisters to assist and videos being shown at locations that can be used as rest stops to catch your breath.

What a lovely surprise and so little advertised. We were blown away from our visit. We didn’t know too much about this venue but learned so much while we were there. You enter the Secret Bunker through what looks like a bungalow. Once through the bomb proof doors you have a 120 yard tunnel to walk along and then 3 floors all underground and safe from nuclear attack to explore. In the entrance you help yourself to an audio wand from which you learn so many interesting facts about this bunker. You explore at your own pace and there is a couple of video films to watch too. The tour ends up in the cafe/shop where you can help yourself to tea and coffee and somebody to assist you in taking your payment for the entrance fee. The staff we spoke to were very friendly and helpful. 10/10. A great day out too for team building events which are also on this site too. More info can be found from their website

Is it suitable for an eight year old girl who is intrigued by the word "secret"?
DavidKeltner

Yes. I think an 8 year old would love it. It is not a scary experience. It's more of a campy experience.

Do you have any cress and egg sandwiches available in anal cafe? Also, I have a small ferret and was wondering if there was parking available for it?

Thank you very much Ralph P. Your heart warming story about your frisky rabbits has reassured me that my ferrets will be well catered for. If you visit again we could arrange for our animals to have a play date.

How long show you allow for your visit? Do we need to pre-book?
Darren P
17 مساهمة
No you don't need to pre book but check on the opening and closing times as winter times are shorter. I guess it's as long or as short as you want as there is short films to watch, radio programmes to listen to I'd say approximately 2hrs maybe give or take
How much is the entry the website isn't currently working
Gryphon58

Sorry, only just seen this. When we visited there was no entry fee just an honesty box where you are supposed to donate...probably why it all looks a little bit shabby but still fascinating
Can we bring our small dog?

I have no idea but it is not really a good place to take a dog.

I don't think children under 10 certainly 8 would get much out of it , but if you have a kid with a interest in the subject there is nothing to stop you taking them it is no different than walking through any large building like say a school !
Is the bunker pram friendly, if I were to bring my little one?
Michael W
Thetford, UK29 مساهمة
Definitely not. This was built to house people in the run up to, and following, a nuclear attack. To move between floors there are only stairs.
