This was an amazing experience!!
Sam, the guide, were so professional and treated us very well! He went beyond to let the kids have a good time.
The elephant keepers were so helpfull and treated the ellies with so much care. They definately know their stories around these gentle giants!
I would love to do this again in future!

This place was amazing!! The staff were so awesome to work with and were very knowledgeable and made the visit a lot of fun, educational and enjoyable. I can't say enough about how wonderful this experience was!!! I highly recommend it!

This experience is once in a lifetime memories kind of stuff. We were able to brush down the elephants and walk alongside them. We also fed them a few times to say thanks for letting us come and say hello. It was amazing!! The animals are cared for, there is no mishandling by visitors or handlers. The tour guides are well educated and share depth in their knowledge of these amazing creatures. A really safe environment and an experience you won't forget. They are sooo big and so gentle. Very special to be in their presence.

I just visited the Elephant Sanctuary located at Hartbeespoortdam in South Africa. I was so impressed by my tour of this place of safety for our magnificent gentle giants, I had to share my enthusiasm.
The tour, conducted by sanctuary managing partner Connie and ably assisted by expert handlers, delivered an unforgettable experience. Each group member fed, touched, brushed, walked with, gained so much information on this endangered species.
With no financial assistance from the South African government or any other source, the effort to preserve these beautiful creatures for future generations is financed purely from entrance fees.
For an unforgettable experience, captured professionally on a video to treasure, visit the Elephant Sanctuary at Hartbeespoortdam or Hazyview or Plettenberg Bay in sunny South Africa.

The poor animals have to work to entertain noise and disrespectful tourists. Take picures, lift their feet, open their mouths to hundreds all day long. This is not a Sanctuary! This is slavery! Please don't support this type of bussiness. Very sad.

@elephant_sanctuary_harties we had the opportunity to interact with a beautiful gentle giant, Khumba was her name and she was super amazing today, and a special thanks to her trainers and our guide name Carol or was it Connie (omg I am so sorry I forgot your name … you were amazing). This is the 3rd time I have been to the @elephant_sanctuary_harties and can highly recommend it .. if you have a chance go out and support them and you will have an experience of a lifetime 🐘 💕

An absolutely amazing experience, in an elephant sanctuary which truly cares for its animals. Contrary to the misinformed reviews you may find here, the animals are treated amazingly and are released once they are ready. The guides are very knowledgable - the animals beautiful and well cared for - and the interaction with them is very safe and an all around memorable experience.

We found out about this place from our driver at sun city, reuben. He went through all the steps of getting the booking set up and getting outside transportation to get us there. We did the elephants first. The first part is brushing the elephant. I personally took this pretty seriously did my part getting her clean, although most people seemed to not really get it and I don't really know how important it was anyway. People also seemed quite afraid of the elephants, but I thought they were pretty straightforward and relaxed. Next you do a short walking path, with the elephants bringing up the rear. If you stay at the back of the group you can really nail some over the shoulder selfies with the elephants right behind you. The next step is a very thorough individual walk through of the elephant from front to back with a guide. Really gives a greater appreciation of elephants. After a brief informational stop, the final stage is feeding, which is amusing but nothing too crazy. The slower you pour the food out, the longer the elephant will hang out with you. Next we went to the monkey walk. The guide was nice, but the only monkeys we saw were capuchins for the first part of the walk, and the same capuchins on the way back. Between these 2 points is a very long walk up some ramps and bridges and down the other side. You will seat and have trouble breathing in a mask. You will also be told afterwards that the monkeys don't go over there. Roughly half of the experience is in the no-monkey zone. I gave this 5*s because the elephants are amazing, the staff is nice and the facilities are excellent. You can skip the monkeys, or at least keep expectations reasonable. Also, be sure to bring cash to tip the handlers and guides.

Hi there.
Our tours are 1 to 1.5 hours long.
First tour departs at 08:00 then 10:00 and last one at 14:00.
Rates per adult R795, kids(4-14) - R350 and Pensioners is R625

Hi Lucy G. There is a few transport companies that provide transport from JHB to us. You can ask at the Hotel/Guest house where you stay to assist with the transport.

Our rates is R775 per adult for a one and a half hour interaction program where you get the opportunity to touch, feed, walk trunk in hand and learn about the anatomy of our African Elephants. Our tours are only available at 08:00, 10:00 and 14:00.

That is correct yes.
The Aerial cableway is about 10km form us,please note we do not have/offer transport to the Aerial cableway. The Monkey Sanctuary is situated right next to the Elephant Sanctuary.
The total amount for 4 adults and 2 kids would be R6,250.00
