‪I recently visited the park and wat an amazing experience the animals was in excellent condition enclosures was clean staff was friendly and overall an awesome place to visit. The big cats was the highlight of the visit.‬

‪Nice & Simple time out with the family‬

‪Children less than 3 years get in free while adults enter for R130. There is a fee for children older than three and pensioners. There quite a lot to see in the place, though a map would have made the navigation easier. Some maps of the area are posted up on the walls but having one on hand would make things easier.

There are boat rides (with dedicated departure times) as well when inside, which come at an additional cost.It's pretty much a chilled way to spend the day with loved ones and the little ones. Besides having boat rides, a light lunch inside, a view of the animals and some demonstration by the arena, there's nothing much more one can get up to here. Area is baby friendly with ramps for prams available. There is also adequate ablution signage and facilities.

Parking is free although a bit tight and constrained. ‬

‪Drunk people on speedboat!!‬

‪So today we thought we would take our two boys to the Zoo and along that go on some boat rides. The zoo was great. Animals cages were well maintained and clean. However they really need to re look at the boat trips. The large one, was some what OK. But not enough seats so we were stood with two small like all the way.. The speed boat what a terrible experience, first asked to skip our turn so they could max space. We were OK with that. The when it was our turn. The drivers of the boats were fighting who was going to take us on our trip. We were put on a boat with four other drunk adults. Music was blasting.and it was unpleasant music. We climbed first in to the boat asked the driver where it is safer with the kids he said at the back and not in the front so we sat at the back.. Then 15 mins in to the trip after I think the driver saw were were not happy due to the drunks on the boat.... . Stopped and told us the other ppl wanted the loud music... And we.. Keep in mind he was the one who said it was safer with the kids to sit in the back... Told us to move to the front as the other ppl on the boat wanted the very very loud music and were drinking!!! Totally acceptable and I will never support them again.!!!!! So sad to see the establishment allow drunk people destroy what is supposed to be a family fun activity.‬

‪Very disappointed.

I phoned the day before asking about the bear and COVID regulations. Told them we will rive 2 hours to get there. On arrival after searching for the bear for 2 hours we were finally told the cage is closed for cleaning...! When I brought their attention to the fact that I spesificaly asked about the bear I was told they can never ensure any animals availability. So go as long as you don't go for spesific animals.

Food planning was terrible. Very hot day and only 3 different drinks were cold. Middle of the day, around lunch the Kiosk cook had to leave to buy more chips and buns. So no cold drinks and no food.

Summary if you're okay with not going for spesific animals and if you take your own food it could work.‬

‪Enjoyable overall until i saw something very upsetting. I was disturbed by one of the zookeepers who mistreated the animals when it was closing time. It was at the enclosure with the bearded dragons and he was probably in a hurry to get home as they had to get all the animals back in the cages for the evening. He pulled the bearded dragon forecefully by its tail. It was up in a small tree and it fell and hit the ground hard. It then tried to get away and was obviously threatened but that treatment ensued until the zookeeper got the animal into its cage. I can only imagine that this is the process and the treatment these animals have to endure every single day after being put on display for our amusement. Absolutely unacceptable‬

‪Cages extremely small. Animals are lonely and distressed. Conditions are terrible. Bears were severely underweight and looked sick and malnourished. Extremely sad to see.‬

‪Worst customer experience ‬

‪ I first asked 3 different staff members about the chimps being locked up for over an hour while I was there.

I then called the landline

I asked to speak to a manager and was told there was none but a supervisor will be with me shortly,

The chimps sounded in extreme Distress that is why I called them.

When the supervisor came she was so arrogant when explaining to me that the chimps will get sick which I said to her that I don’t mind if that is the case but they do not sound ok . She then told me that this is how they always sound and blatantly disregarded my concerns .

I rather just took my friends and left. They were not happy and neither am I about how she spoke to me.

She was rude, arrogant and blatantly disrespectful.

I will never return to the venue

‪Set in a lovely position - mostly good for the animals‬

‪It was lovely to see mostly South African animals and reptiles. Most of the animals were in cages that seemed to fit their well-being, and they were obviously being cared for on a regular basis. I did have some concerns about the cappuchin monkeys, especially one that seemed depressed and longed to get into the trees she could see, but couldn't get at. Could there not be smallish trees that could be placed inside the cages, that have leaves. The tigers had trees, and they don't climb them, but the arboreal monkeys didn't and do need them. Also the jaguars love water, and yet they didn't have a pond. Surely that could be arranged. I was also concerned about the lone male baboon who was obviously distressed about that and calling for others to join him. Some of the snakes were in cages too small for them and the large snakes in the dark room cages had really old and dusty decorations in their cages that were not sufficient stimulation or representative of their normal habitat. Surely a snake should always be in a cage as long as its body, so it can stretch out to full length? The otter had a horrible algae pool, and I know it comes from the dam, but something should be done to filter it out in his enclosure, as well as in the fish enclosure. Having said all that, it was a great place for children and adults to see animals up close, and I hope it continues to improve and update its enclosures.‬

‪Hartbeespoort Dam Snake and Animal Park was definately the highlight of our visit in Harties. The animals are all in such a good condition and everything is so clean and neat. The layout of the park is excellent. It is definately the best maintained animal park I have seen. Well done and keep up the good work.‬
