In Brentonico you cannot miss a visit to the oldest
medieval church in Trentino, the crypt of San Giovanni,
what remains of the ancient place of worship on which
between 1584 and 1593 the current one was built, consecrated
to Saints Peter and Paul. The crypt of the Tenth Century has a
quadrangular plan, divided into three naves by quadrangular columns,
from which the agile cross vaults rise. Of great
interest are the altar and some medieval and Romanesque frescoes.
As for the church, it is a fine
example of the marble art of Castione, already mentioned in the
Twelfth century. The interior has a nave and preserves
some interesting works of art, the monumental bell tower
has Romanesque mullioned windows and a spire of Veronese terracotta.

It was several years that I didn’t see so many snow here in the mountain of my second house.
The church is silent, nobody inside, few people outside. We are still under the third lockdown for coronavirus that’s ending the 7th of January .

The first documented news concerning the church dates back to 1145, while the crypt dates back to the eighth century.
The current building, designed by Zuan Iseo Rivera on the existing Romanesque structure of the thirteen century, was consacreted in 1595.
Exterior with eighteenth-century portico and sixteenth-century portal, the bell tower is in Romanesque style with cuspide surrounded by four pinnacles and four mullioned windows of the cell of the bells.
Inside there is a nave with five side chapels, noteworthy is the beautiful baroque font in yellow marble at the entrance, main altar in polychrome marble with a neoclassical temple.
Organ with mechanical transmission, it is the oldest of the Trentino area.
Finally don’t miss the crypt, you can go down staircase on the left, wonderful, with some frescoes.

Un gioiello da osservare con calma per scoprirne i molti pregi architettonici e storico artistici all'esterno così come all'interno. Vale la pena di soffermarsi a considerare i singoli altari le preziose statue e la perizia di fede e di arte promossa da questa comunità. Descrizione certo generica, ma voluta per non svelare la magnificenza di questo edificio tutto da scoprire.

Non mi era mai capitato di trovare una chiesa aperta di sera completamente buia, fatta eccezione per il tabernacolo dell’altare.

La Chiesa dei SS. Pietro e Paolo sorge in centro all' abitato di Brentonico, all' esterno molto bella con il campanile con l' orologio, all' interno molto semplice e poco affrescata, merita una visita se si passa.

Chiesa modesta con pochi dipinti, forse la parte più bella era nella cripta che essendo chiusa non abbiamo potuto visitare.

Visitare Brentonico senza entrare in chiesa dei S.S. Pietro e Paolo si perde sicuramente qualcosa, Consiglio alle persone che visitano il bel Paese di Brentonico di entrare in chiesa.
