we ended our 15-day trip to Ladakh by visiting Thiksey. We visited quite a few monasteries during our stay but Thiksey's is one of my best memories.

Thiksey Monastery stands out for its cultural richness and scenic splendor. The monastery’s detailed frescoes and the massive Buddha statue reflect its deep spiritual heritage, while the surrounding landscape offers breathtaking views. It’s a must-visit for anyone exploring Ladakh’s cultural and natural beauty.

This is a beautiful temple you should visit if you around. There are many segments inside temple which allocated for several Gods, and other Gurus. All these parts include beautiful valuable pictures which you can take pictures. It's nice to see around from top of the temple also.

Serene, peaceful, beautiful monastery with one of the most beautiful art work. Just by being there you will feel inner peace. Which unfortunately gets disturbed by some notorious tourists doing video call on loud volume right on steps of monastery. We seriously need to learn how to behave in public.
Not sure why management had to start ice cream parlour inside the monastery, people are spoiling the grounds with garbage by not using dustbins.
Inspite of all this, its a beautiful place to visit to experience peace, enjoy beautiful views and offer prayers.

Situated approximately 19 kilometers from Leh City, this monastery stands as the largest in the region. Cabs can conveniently take you up to the monastery gate for ease of access. An entry ticket of Rs.50/- allows you to explore the vast monastry.
To fully appreciate the breathtaking surroundings, ascend higher within the monastery. However, be prepared for a climb up steep stairs that wind their way along the structure. The monastery closes its doors at 7 pm, so plan your visit accordingly.
Within the monastery, you'll encounter an impressive array of stupas and statues. The twelve stories of this architectural marvel house various sections adorned with significant artifacts. The monastery's beauty is not only evident up close but also stands out when viewed from a distance, making it a captivating destination for visitors exploring the Leh region.

Majestic monastery to visit as this is one the well kept monastery in Leh. It’s about an hour from Leh airport and take your time to visit all the temples inside. No shoes allowed once you enter the upper grounds and make sure you have socks on as the floors leading to the temple get really hot during the day. Take your time to indulge in the worship room and participate in the aarti as well. The terrace offers beautiful unobstructed views of the surrounding areas. There is a restaurant where you can purchase food. Nominal entry fee to such a beautiful place. Feel free to donate generously.

My Ladakh adventure in July led me to the remarkable Thiksey Monastery, a true treasure hidden amidst the Himalayan beauty. This visit was an absolute highlight, made all the more memorable by our journey.
We began our day by renting a scooty for around 1000/- rupees, a convenient way to explore Leh city at our own pace. The freedom of riding through the picturesque landscapes of Ladakh was an experience in itself. After discovering the charms of Leh city, we were directed towards Shey Monastery as a must-visit attraction.
However, what we didn't anticipate was the unexpected gem that awaited us at Thiksey Monastery. Located on a hill, it welcomed us with its grandeur and traditional Tibetan architecture, standing against a backdrop of majestic mountains and clear blue skies.
Stepping onto the monastery grounds, a sense of tranquility and reverence washed over us. The courtyard adorned with fluttering prayer flags beckoned us to pause and soak in the spirituality of the place.
Thiksey Monastery is undeniably one of the best monasteries in Ladakh. Its claim to fame is its colossal 15-meter-high Maitreya Buddha statue, an absolute masterpiece. The sheer scale and intricate artistry of this statue left us in complete awe, evoking a profound sense of spirituality that words can scarcely describe. The prayer hall, alive with the chants of monks and the devotion of pilgrims, added to the atmosphere of sanctity.
As we explored the monastery, we had the delightful opportunity to meet a small child, likely of Tibetan descent. Their innocence and spirituality radiated, leaving a lasting impression on us. It was a reminder of the rich cultural tapestry that Ladakh embraces.
After our visit to Thiksey Monastery, we found a convenient spot nearby to eat and drink, adding to the overall convenience of the experience.
In conclusion, Thiksey Monastery is a true marvel in the heart of Ladakh, and our impromptu visit turned out to be a highlight of our journey. Its blend of spirituality, stunning architecture, and natural beauty make it an absolute must-visit destination. We left Thiksey Monastery with a deep sense of inner peace and gratitude, an experience that will forever be etched in our memories.

Not more than 500 and that too with frequent landings between. Take your time in climbing the stairs and rest between taking a look around. The place is a must to see, dont be afraid of height.

what will be the suitable time to visit lah ladakh ? I am having a kid of 8 years old and will be travelling from Kolkata. What will be the best route to travel with estimated cost ? can we plan to travel in December this year? It will be very helpful if any one can suggest. Thanks

I would recommend you to visit Ladakh during summer months (Jun/Jul being ideal).. in fact right now I'm on Ladakh trip.. it's already pretty chilly out here and with a kid you would require to be more cautious.. best route is from Manali side as it offers amazing views enroute and it's a beautiful drive no doubt.. although I'll suggest you to check the weather forecast and road conditions before planning as it is frequently marred by landslides..

Hi, could you please confirm the boarding charges for Thiksey monestary? Was $25 you paid, per day? or total amount?
كُتب بتاريخ 31 مايو 2018
I think you mean to boarding is "Entry". It was INR 30 that we paid! It was the fee for a single day. If you want to stay there for a night or multiple nights then you have to contact thikshey monastery directly.
كُتب بتاريخ 1 يوليو 2018
You can actually stay inside the Thiksay Monastery. I don't know about the process which needs to follow but Thiksay monastery is amongst those monasteries which allow visitors to stay for a limited time.
