We tried to mail Manohara several times and also used there on line form to try to get a reservation. No response, none.
On-site we queried about the status and we’re told the sunrise tours are no longer available.
Also as most probably have heard it is no longer allowed to climb the temple, only walk around the base. It is NOT possible to see the famous stupas on the top, even from a distance, anymore. Rumors have circulated that it would open again in January 23, but that plan has been cancelled by the government . Staff think it will open again during 2023, but don’t know when. This was the status today on Jan 13.

I joined the Sunrise trip few years back before the pandemic, and it was awesome. We had the chance to climb up to the temple and watch the sun rise from the temple complex. However, during the pandemic and renovation on its way, the reception informed us that we can only watch the sun rise from the hill across the temple. A bit disappointed, but when we got there, it came to our surprise that it offers a whole new experience. Seeing the sun rise with the silhouette of the temple from a far is quite magical. After enjoying the view, breakfast was served picnic style with a guide telling the story of Borobudur. Very educative, relaxing and enjoyable.
During covid time, the group is limited to a very small size, please call and book ahead.
Worth waking up at 3am and the 1 hour drive to the temple from city.

Rehat setelah gowes, brunch di manohara sunrise...dapat view candi sambil makan dan minum..kualitas makanan lumayan, harga tidak terlalu mahal ...will back

ANAのパッケージツアーにマノハラ日の出観光が組み込まれていました。
早朝3時45分に市内のホテルを出発、マノハラのホテルで受け付けをして胸に目印のステッカーを貼り、懐中電灯を受け取って暗闇の中遺跡に向かいます。
遺跡では日の出がよく見えて、他人が写りこまないような場所取りをして朝日を待ちます。
やがて空が白みだし、ムラピ山の斜面から陽が昇ります。感動的な景色でした。
あたりが明るくなった後は、ANAツアーのガイドとともに遺跡を一通り観光してマノハラのホテルに戻り、ビュッフェの朝食をいただきました。
現地のパンフレットでは、外国人向け朝食付きで、IDR475,000でした。

so you start early, go to the temple, see the sunrise and park here for great food and ambiance, you can stay on for long. Array of western and local dishes. Enough choices for vegan and vegetarians unless you want ten things in your plate.

Typically Borobudur temple or Stupa as we call it is very near from Manohara Restora,however Manohara Restora is around 1.5 km from main gate of the temple area. Ticket of Sunrise or Sunset is available here with complimentary breakfast and dinner and both are of buffet system. Food quality here is good. Manohara provides one LED torch to each ticket holder during early morning Sunrise visit at 4-30 am and a scarf as suvenior after coming back from temple visit.

We experienced extremely wonderful sunrise 🌄 from the great Borobudur temple.
But, the breakfast provided by Manohara hotel was not as great as the Borobudur sunrise. I got half cooked rice & the restaurant was quite dirty, there were flies around our table.

I did the Manohara Sunset rather than the sunrise and I can say the sunset is better because you get a full dinner instead of of just a breakfast. Haha. Also you don't have to wake up so early. You also will get a little torchlight to help you find your steps safely.

A sunrise tour of Borobudur is a magical experience, managed by the hotel. You arrive by taxi, walk up to the hotel reception to buy the tickets and pickup a torch and then climb to the top of Borobudur to watch the sunrise. The breakfast afterwards included in. The price is excellent.

Sunrise in Borobudur was a great experience. The view of the the stupas over looking the lush greenery below in the early morning is peaceful and serene.
Manohara sunrise is different than other sunrise in Borobudur as it’s a special ticket to go into the temple complex at 5am before the normal opening hours at 6am .. the ticket is a bit more expensive (but it’s with breakfast included) but u can be sure to catch the sunrise and the beautiful before the main crowd arrives ..
