A museum not to be missed. The tragedy of the 1976 earthquake told without frills and without false hypocrisy. Images, videos memories of a tragedy still alive in the memories and history of every single Friulian

in the evening I was happy to have gone in to visit the museum, but honestly I was a bit pushed. not being in one of my most peaceful periods, and despite not having been directly involved in this tragedy (I was a child, and in my area the adults had sensed the movement in the house and we had all gone down to the street anyway) my hesitation was due precisely from the risk of getting emotionally involved in something shocking, something I didn't want to do this weekend.
An affable, prepared, cultured welcome changed everything; an involved and discreetly engaging person whose presence and presentation we were truly privileged, being able to have his knowledge and his responses to our requests allowed us to access the museum with a different awareness.
the museum wants to offer an eye on the tragedy certainly from an emotional point of view, with photos and graphic documentation, and with the interesting possibility for the visitor to record a video with his personal and subjective testimony, while also underlining the involvement of many different actors, and at different levels, and (an aspect that was very interesting to me as presented to me by the teacher I wrote about before) the birth - starting from that moment immediately following the tragedy - of a Friulian model. I want to underline this aspect, because it radically changed my thoughts on visiting the museum. In my mind it was no longer a historical museum, in the sense that it "simply" retraces what happened, but it is also and above all the outline of how people knew and wanted to start again from there, the testimony of the moral strength of the people involved, solidarity, the desire to start again (scenes of a wedding that was nevertheless wanted to be celebrated within a few days, one can imagine in what conditions) the reading of this event almost paradoxically as the birth of a series of knowledge and opportunities to different levels (starting from the emotional ones, to the occupational ones, to the birth of the University, to the awareness of having to live in an area that will always be subject to earthquake risk, and from the combination of all these levels to also rebuild one's life. Not just a historical museum, as I was saying, but a museum
aimed at the future.
A special thanks to the person who welcomed us, whose name unfortunately I don't know, without whom the museum would have been an interesting visit but whose true meaning we would not have been able to grasp (and consequently appreciate).
