My trek across the Kolomensky Zapruds, which began in the early hours of August with an introduction to the church of Boris and Gleb on Bolshaya Zaprudnaya, continued in the exact opposite direction - west of the "axis" of October Revolution Street. Returning to the latter, I took a walk north to the intersection with the River, turned left, reached Oliny Vrazhek Street (which is by the Belskaya lake). And that's where Gorodishchenskaya begins. That's what I was looking for. A little more than two workbenches were created from the Church of Borisoglebe.
So, the Church of the Conception of John the Baptist on the Fortress (or in the Fortress). It's just the John the Baptist Church. Apparently, we should start with the fact that, according to scientists, this sakral is the oldest religious building on the territory of the Moscow region. Can you imagine??? THE OLDEST!!! Awareness of this fact alone leads to an appropriate attitude towards the Kolomna John the Baptist Church. The second interesting thing is sanctification.
I would like to remind you that the church is consecrated in honor of the Conception of John the Baptist - the conception (in simple terms - pregnancy, i.e. the process resulting from the act of fertilization) of the prophet John the Baptist, called the Baptist, and celebrated every year by the Orthodox Church on October 6. I have only been able to find 26 Orthodox churches or thrones in the entire globe, consecrated in honor of this event and festival. TWENTY-SIX, Carl!!! For the world... About the history of sakral - a couple of "strokes". The place where the sacral is located was in old times a fief village of the head of the Kolomna diocese - at one time there was a summer residence of the lord.
It is quite expected that there was a place of worship in the place where the representative of the highest ecclesiastical rank was stationed - clearly a church. There's no reliable information on that, but I'm working on historical analogies. The earliest information about the church in the Cities is found in the Scribe Book of 1577-1578: it refers to the STONE Church of the Conception of John the Baptist. This structure was most likely a summer (cold) church, as a warm church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is mentioned alongside it. Such sacred “tandemism” is not exclusive and is quite common.
Although the first chronicles for the Church of John the Baptist are dated to the second half of the 16th century, according to modern researchers it was built in the early 14th century!!! What the church originally looked like - we can only speculate, but its harsh shapes of rough-hewn white stone blocks (and to this day the walls of the quadripartite, about half its height, and the walls of the apses) were partially "softened" and embellished in the 16th century: the church was crowned with an not-quite-understood tri-head, the top of the main volume was made of brick and smooth-hewn white stone, and the facades completed by the Kokoshniks were dismembered into three yarns with blades.
At the end of the 18th century (it is believed that in 1780) the present tented bell tower appeared, adjacent to the meal. As a result, three thrones were consecrated in the church: the main one in honor of the Conception of John the Baptist, and the side chapels in the refectory: in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and in honor of the apostle James, brother of the Lord. I'll try to describe the architecture of the temple. On the one hand, its spatial-volume composition is quite classic: elongated in a row on the east-west axis of the apse, the main volume, the refectory with side chapels, the bell tower. Seems like nothing unusual at first glance. But once you go around the temple a couple of times, you begin to realize that you are looking at a kind of sacral Lego, where each element is starkly different from the "neighbour," and at the same time, harmoniously combined with it.
If you, like the author of these lines, come to the John the Baptist Church on foot, the first you will see is a three-part apse under a three-part low concha. The sodden walls of the apse made of crudely treated large blocks of KaGBe hint at their venerable age. Next is the main element, of course the main volume. The cube-shaped two-light quadruple consists, as my photos clearly show, of first light, whose rough blocks are "in tune" with the material of the apse, and second light, whose smooth walls are dismembered by shoulder blades and completed by triple kokoshniks.
The three-dome was surprising: the central drum is light, the two side drums are deaf, covered with domes-"caps" with WOODEN covering (lemech) and with crosses on the "top". Another interesting detail that rarely anyone pays attention to: if you look at the temple from the east side, about from the fence, you can see a structure that is not quite clear at first sight, which is located on the roof of the main volume, above the southern corner of the quadrant, as if to the left-back of the main drum. It's, as far as I'm concerned, the remains of an antique wall bell.
You will recall that the bell tower of the sacral was not established until the end of the 18th century, and before that small bells were placed in the arches of the structure I mentioned. The refectory, which is equal to the main volume, is completely "eaten" by massive pentagonal side chapels. The architecture of the latter is considerably "younger" than the apse and the first light quadruple. Finally - the bell tower: on a square base is a ringing octagon, completed by a tent with two rows of hearsay.
Unfortunately, at the time of my visit, the St. John the Baptist Church in the City Halls was closed. Maybe you'll have better luck??? Familiarity with this most interesting historical and architectural object I recommend unequivocally!!!

An ancient temple in Gorodishche. Small, snow-white, simple architecture and a temple and bell tower. Unfortunately, we didn’t get inside; there was a funeral service.

I saw it in January.
Some experts say it's THE oldest in the Moscow region. The church nestles pretty far from the Kolomna Kremlin, about two kilometers to the east, on the left bank of the Kolomenka rivulet flowing into the Moskva river.
The weather was absolutely lovely, I was practically alone there, so my acquaintance with that beauty was quiet and without that harum-scarum tourist fuss I hate so much.
A place to think about transience of human life...

The weather was absolutely lovely, I was practically alone there, so my acquaintance with that beauty was quiet and without that harum-scarum tourist fuss I hate so much.

Самый старый храм Коломны. Мы с женой посетили его в середине ноября в ходе индивидуальной экскурсии по городу, которую великолепно провела для нас гид Маргарита.
Вот, вроде бы, скромный такой, строгий. Аскетичный даже. А как задумаешься о возрасте, да о том, что ему пришлось пережить на своём веку, особенно сто лет назад, душа замирает.
Ведь тогда, раскоммуниздив в нём всё, что только возможно, сорвав и разбив колокола, разнеся вдребезги звонницу, гарны комсомольци любили, бывало, развести костерок из древних икон, да и повеселиться вокруг него всласть. Как говорится, "Взвейтесь кострами, синие ночи..."
Рад, что удалось дожить до нормальных времён. Очень не рад, что этим нелюдям без одной хромосомы всё сошло с рук. Надеюсь, лишь на этом свете.
А храм рекомендую, конечно. Красавец!

Этот красивый храм построен в 14 веке, но в 16 веке был существенно перестроен. В 18 веке построена колокольня и трапезная. Внутри очень душевно.

Храм находится в районе "Городище" (древнее село в свое время вошло в черту города). Является памятником архитектуры древнерусского зодчества. От древней постройки четырнадцатого века до наших дней дошли части стен четверика. Древняя кладка фасадов из грубо обработанного камня местного известняка хорошо видна. На одной из стен храма хорошо заметен особенный барельеф, изображающий диковинного зверя, - косвенное свидетельство принадлежности постройки к началу четырнадцатого века. Правда говорят, что на храме находится копия древнего изображения, а подлинник исторического барельефа хранится в местном краеведческом музее.

Коломна - маленький городок, где вы получите море эмоций! Этого храма нет в списке «обязательных» мест для посещения! Может и к счастью, так как своя тихая и умиротворённая атмосфера, но и зря, так как эта НАША история и прикосновение к ней... 14 век... то ли лев, то ли василиск на фасаде здания... загадки, к которым хочется прикоснуться и в них разобраться!

Впечатляет архитектурное решение храма и сохранившаяся кладка 14-го века, однако во время нашего визита храм был закрыт, так что не каждый раз удаётся попасть внутрь святыни.

If you go to the Holy spring in the Andreevskoe village, it is convenient to turn off the Malinsky highway to Gorodishche (Settlement). Especially since it's worth it. This is the oldest building in the Moscow region - at least, so it is considered. Downer half of the quadrangle of the church walls and the apse is made of roughly hewn white stone blocks, and it is clearly visible. The upper part of the temple was rebuilt from large bricks and smooth white stone. Plus the famous "seal of Batu" - a bas-relief of an unknown animal on one of the blocks. Now it is a copy, and the original is in the local museum. Church in Gorodishche has an extremely simple and unpretentious form. At the same time, the main attention of the builders was clearly paid to the internal space. The walls of the temple had no windows, the light got inside through the narrow slit-like holes that cut through the capitulum of round shape under the dome.

Храм находится на тихой Городищенской улице, и даже в воскресенье в нем не многолюдно. Известен своей "Батыевой печатью" - вмурованным в стену изображением сказочного зверя, который по легенде приписывается Бату-хану, приказавшему похоронить по христианскому обряду тело князя Романа Рязанского, погибшего вместе со всем войском при взятии монголо-татарами Коломны в 1238 году. Однако нижняя белокаменная часть храма датируется 1308 годом (т.е на 1,5 века позже нашествия). В то же время храм находится в Городище, на берегу Москвы-реки - месте расположения старой Коломны, которая после разорения Батыем была перенесена а современное место. В любом случае посещение храма будет интересным - увидите много неожиданного. В храме можно купить цветную брошюру (200 р.) с фотографиями и подробной историей храма и его достопримечательностей. Оригинал "Батыевой печати" (камень цветной!!) хранится в Краеведческом музее в зале на 2 этаже (ул. Лажечникова, 15 в коломенском Кремле)
