The Chitrakoot waterfall is called to be Niagra of India. Although no good facilities are available to reach here,we went by our own vehicle. The fall was closed for visitors due to COVID-19 but we managed to see it. It was a beautiful sight with roaring water. Worth visiting but facilities should be increased.

Visit this place during the monsoons i.e. during July or August to see it in its full glory. Stay at the Chattisgarh Tourism resort located right next to the falls. From your Hotel verandah u will be able to enjoy the scene.

Memorable trip, the second with my brothers, sisters and their Families. after our Bhutan trip in June 2019. 4 days trips of the itinerary included a day trip to Chitrakut and Tirathgard. Easily can be terms as one of Nature's Great Wonders. Water falling from such a great height on a river bed and creating a scene like Niagra Falls, water particles allover, rainbow were mesmerizing. Suggest to plan for a night stay in the nearby town then one will be able enjoy the evening under the lights. We had to return at around 6PM as we were to get back to Koraput, approx 3 and half hours drive from there. Don't miss walking past the guest house, going down in the steps from where you will get a clear view of the Great Fall. Take the boat ride to be at very near the Fall and get drenched by the soothing water particles. Our visit was in November. Visit during Monsoon season (July-August-Sept) will give you the full width of the Fall.

Mega Impressive Waterfalls.. Raw power and Majestic beauty, such a lovely and unique landmark, it blows my mind, this waterfall produces a Mist that can be felt from several blocks away..
Definitely worth the trip, giant spectacular natural waterfalls, I say rolling waterfalls, must see it to experience it..
At 95 ft high and 980 ft wide, not just the waterfall, but the entire surrounding area is a treasure.
Trip behind the falls, i.e. About the Journey & Stay:
Started at 09:00 in the morning from Raipur reached 05:00 in the evening at Dandami Resort; 2-3 Stops for Photo-shoots, Tea Break, Lunch etc..
National Highway 30 is at very good condition, Roads are buttery idyllic lush green & passes through dense forest, but after Makri Hotel to Kondagaon near about 100 Kms Road is pathetic, you will have to be patience while driving, Because this 100 km, will definitely test you & your driving skills and patience to drive. But on the same route you will experience 12 hair pin bends of huge KESHKAAL GHAAT, in fact its beauty at its best. Stay on the main roads and the National & state Highways. You can say this stretch is a bumpy ride. Try to avoid Google maps for shortcut as they create trouble for you.
Also must pay homage to Telni Mata Mandir at KESHKAAL GHAAT, because there is a belief here that by doing this, your journey becomes comfortable.
We stayed at Dandami Luxury Resort right next to the falls.. Again experienced one of the BEST PROPERTY OF CG TOURISM..
The rest, I will include in its personal review.
Best time to visit: If you want to see the waterfall in full bloom, enjoy it during monsoon (July to September)..
Some More Details of Falls and its nearby area:
There is no entry fee but you have to pay parking fees for your vehicle. Scenic view of the falls, easily accessible by foot..
You need not go downstairs or upstairs to reach this waterfall. You can go down to the river by climbing down steps for a boat ride which will take you around in the river near the waterfall and to the other side of fall. This is basically for trekking and camping.
Not many good restaurants around, so carry your food along, but please don’t be uncivilized visitors, and stop consuming food near the waterfalls and stop spreading single use plastic wrappers and bottles near this beautiful place.
There are plenty of other falls and attractions nearby, to make this trip that lasts a few days.
The roaring water is mesmerising and awe inspiring!
I would love to come back during summer to see different scenic views.
Wishing all Readers a Happy Holiday and Safe Drive..

I stayed at Atithi hotel, just near to the Railway Station. If one has to catch Koraput-Howrah Express which departs at 4.15 am, the hotel is ideal. A no-nonsense hotels with no frills and attached restaurant. The food is tasty and good.I hired a cab at Rs 2000/- from the hotel and planned to Chitrakote and Tirathgarh falls along with some other sites.First I visited Tirathgarh falls which is around 40 kms from Jagdalpur. The Kangar forest reserve toll charges Rs 55/- person for entering the forest. There is lot hteen vegetation along the NH 63 and takes around 1hrs 20 mins to reach the Tirathgarh falls. You need to descend a nos of stairs till you reach the base of the waterfall. A huge cascade of water falls and I found enthusiastic tourists even bathing in filmy. It is great waterfall with a smart grandeur. The place is awfully picturesque and tourist will definitely enjoy the visit. The kutumesear caves was closed as it was flooded and I was informed that it will be opened from 1st November.
Next We went to the other side of Jagdalpur of around 40 kms from Tirathgarh to visit the famous Chitrakote falls. The journey was good as the highway is maintained with some small undulations somewhere. When we reach near the falls the whispering was felt from a distance. The first view was awesome because of the gigantic spread. As monsoon is still there the supply volume of water from river Irawady was high and such huge volume of water falling was creating both a sense of fear and splendidness as well in my mind. It is really gorgeous and delightful. Right visit at right time. I found adventurous people riding on boats near the falls. Please visit. it will be an unique experience for lifetime.
Finally we went to the Danteswari Mata mandir and paid our homage.

I am delayed in giving the response, but I think I will be able to answer you.
Puri to Chitrakote falls is all togather 640 kms appx, 15-16 hours normal drive, so practically 18 hours appx. I personally came from vizag, where I found road after Jaypore is not in good shape till it enters Chattisgarh, So Orissa road stretch was bumpy in patches. I have no idea on the road condition from Puri to Jaypore as it crosses some stretch of Andhar Pradesh.
For night stay you can choose Palakonda of Andhrapradesh (appx 7-8 hours of drive). Pay a visit to Sri Kotadurga Temple In Palakonda Srikakulam if you are fond of religious places.
The terrain is not hilly, so roads are not that twisted, but small hillocks are in the vicinity, so nice to see.
If you are self driving, then will enjoy it.
Please visit Tirathgarh falls too which is near Kutumsar caves. The fall is a beauty.
Going from Visakhapatnam to Jagdalpur by car via Vizianagaram , how is the road condition after Vizianagaram till Jagdalpur ?

I went on 15th August 2019, Road repairing was on in the Orissa stretch, roads of both AP and Chattisgarh were in good condition. Food joints on this road is not decent (if not taken within Arku). Day time is best to drive.
Hi, can you give the details of the stay where you were able to see the falls? I am planning to go there during the first week of Oct. Thanks,

Better to stay in Jagdalpur. There are a limited number of decent hotels. There is a govt guest house on the banks. The details. I dont know. Hire a taxi, to reach he place. Take a copius supply of mosquito repellents for there is falciparum Malaria, which is the the worst form is present. Carry your own lunch packs. Visit the place and enjou.
Can we stay or camp near fall

There is a tourist resort adjacent to the falls. You can stay there. Staying in the open is also possible. There is a police outpost near the falls.

On can reach Chitrakoot by taking a Mumbai - Raipur Flight, and travel by road to Chitrakoot. Alternatively one can go Via Vizag, and then take an overnight train to Jagdalpur.
Has anyone been to falls in fabruary first week? How does it look like ..

The falls is seasonal and hence one can not expect full flow of water in February.
