Beautiful castle that has played an important role in the history of the Netherlands. Nicely maintained and very educational. Definitely worth a visit

Very child (baby) unfriendly place with the stroller is not to enter the lock, this is not mentioned anywhere. Lady at service is very unfriendly if we ask questions about this, so we have left after payment of entrance € 17 p.p. and without a visit to the lock. Absolutely not recommended!

A nicely maintained castle in a beautiful nature reserve, lots to see and friendly and very helpful staff, lots of interaction with Things to do, I don't find the exhibition an added value, it might be more fun to fill the spaces with historical stuff. Furthermore everything well arranged

Beautiful location, perfectly maintained with fun treasure hunts and activities, especially in the summer holidays. Recommended from the age of 4 to the end of primary school. Take the ferry to Woudrichem or Gorinchem before or after for a complete day out.

We come from the area, cycle or walk with grandchildren along or at Loevestein. If they want an ice cream or coffee, we first have to pay 1.5 euros entrance fee, yes, you are not crazy, then continue to Woudrichem.

Kids wanted to go to the Piethuis (of course because it was on the Sinterklaas news).
To be precise, there were 2 Petes walking around. In the castle, 2 rooms were furnished as a Piet house. So these were a few wrapped presents and a Santa nightgown on the bed. Nothing else to do for the children. I didn't think the silence exhibition was really suitable for them :/
Only 1 restaurant open, so we had to eat standing after ordering almost 50 euros.
In total we spent around 100 euros to view 2 almost empty rooms.

The lock itself is worth it.
But suddenly we found ourselves in an Amnesty International section! The link was made between political prisoners of then and now, ignoring the - sometimes completely different - historical contexts. Go, everything in one heap. Apparently the board has opted out of a lucrative contribution from Amnesty to participate in this propaganda. We found the table football game (you had to put 50 cents in first), between 'activists' and 'rulers', quite shocking, yes the game is suddenly in English. Really, they made a game of it!
All in all a strange and disappointing visit to an interesting historical site.

We had high expectations, but a lot was disappointing on Sunday, October 15.
The ride to the castle was beautiful, riding along the water over 13 hills among the grazers. The welcome was very friendly. The lady behind the counter was neat and it was nice and warm on this chilly day. The shop was very complete: something for everyone and also informative brochures about the area, great.
The food in the Taverne was a bit less. We waited almost half an hour for a sandwich and we think it might have been a little faster, but who knows, maybe they were busy. The toilets here were so incredibly dirty that I should have reported it, but we were already a bit late so I thought 'never mind'.
So on to the castle, we thought that was useful, but we would have preferred to look at the museum and the powder tower first. The castle is gigantic and we therefore had high expectations about the information we would receive about the castle. That was so disappointing, we still don't know much about Loevestein Castle. The information in the castle, the powder tower and the museum was not sufficient for us. It felt like we hadn't seen half of it and like many parts of the castle were closed. Afterwards we still wonder "did we miss something?".
There were loud sounds of falling stones in the castle (children were building a bridge). We didn't like that at all, I am very sensitive to stimuli and I was always shocked, so we walked through faster than we would have liked. It's great that there is so much for children, it really is, but do it in a place where the acoustics work, then you have a win-win and you are more inclusive as an organization.
Stairs in the castle were really tough in some places. I was glad to have my hiking boots and the rope above me to hold on to. I do not recommend this experience for very small children who can just walk or people who have difficulty walking.
The Mouth Death exhibition was fantastic. I think it's a shame that we didn't take more time for this, we kept thinking that we had to keep going a bit, because the castle was almost closing. We thought we would see a lot in the castle, but that was not the case. In retrospect, it's a shame that we didn't take more time for this, because there wasn't much to see in the remaining parts. We were even able to walk a complete circuit around the castle afterwards, even though we thought we were late and might not make it. Actually we should have gone back.
What we also found very informative was the film about the water and how Loevestein Castle deals with it. My friend is studying "something with water" at the university in Delft and thought this was a very good film. Too bad it was so hidden, we almost missed it.
Will we come back? Yes, maybe with the pound during our walk in Gorinchem. But our expectations have now been tamed... We have lunch elsewhere and then look up more about the castle online.

Loevestein Castle is certainly an experience. What is striking is that the offer attracts children (parents, grandparents) but that the staff is not at all responsive to this. They really don't pay any attention to children. Use of language, bit of friendliness, guide (?). The same design of the exhibition. Amnesty International is an institution that deserves a lot of attention; awareness among children is of course important. Why not adapt the exhibition to children?

Short visit. Didn't like it much. Not very informative. Wasn't worth it.
An interesting exhibition about human rights.
