Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is a glorious temple set on top Chiang Mai western hills in the same name national park. On the way to it, around half the way, is a nice secluded Temple Wat Pha Lat I suugest to visit.
Once up at Doi Suthep you need another mean of transport - a cable car. The top Temple is very important and rich in decorations with a golden Temple holding a Buddha relic and golden Stupa. Great city views as well.

About 40 minutes drive from Chiang Mai
You can climb there by the long walk that offers a beautiful perspective, or take the funicular if you want to save your gambettes 😉
Then it is another world , of serenity despite the world , of traditions because you will observe believers make offerings and pray
You will meet monks in their beautiful orange outfits , and can admire the panoramic view 😍
To get there we took a Taxi Grab (Asian Uber ) which cost us 13€
Then we made the hike that leaves the exit to go to another temple lost in the forest the Wat Pha Lat , it is really worth it because it is yet another more nature atmosphere 💚
Return by collective taxi negotiated for 400 THb = 12€

I’ve thought that if you’ve seen one Temple you’ve seen them all I stand corrected in that the Doi Suthep Temple in Chiang Mai really does stand out as being particularly beautiful. The Naga (multi-headed serpent) is the hand rail you can use as you ascend the 307 steps it takes you to get to the top.
The Asians are superstitious and we participated in one of their rituals called Kau Chim which is akin to predicting our future through Astrology. In a temple you kneel with a container of numbered sticks, chopstick size. Pointing the container at the Buddha you shake it until one of them falls out. The number on your stick is your Ancient Chinese Prophecy.

We drove the taxi from Chiang Mai to the temple, which is located at an altitude of about 1000 meters. Cost of this around 350 Baht in November 2024. A winding road leads uphill. Admission 30 Baht for non-Thais. At the foot of the complex there are various shops selling drinks and souvenirs. A staircase with about 200 steps leads up to the very beautiful and very well-kept temple complex. From above you have a wonderful view of the city. Highly recommended.

Took a taxi up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep and then a cable car up to the temple.
Amazing location and beautiful temple. Grateful for a sunny day which bounced brilliant sunshine off all the gold objects. Got some great photos.
Coming down we took the staircase which was not as steep or as daunting as it looked.
The grounds are quite extensive so allow enough time to explore everything and everywhere. Great views from the balcony.
There are lots of markets on the level between the temple and the beginning of the stairs as well as lining the streets around the temple. Prices are slightly cheaper than other markets.

I visited this beautiful wat with my teenage son in January 2025.
The history, the meaning, the spirituality has been written about extensively, but here are the nuts and bolts of getting there (and coming back / escaping).
Get a red songthaew from near the Chang Phueak Gate, the northern gate on the square surrounding Chiang Mai old town. The red songthaews are lined up just west of there.
Cost is 100 baht and takes 45 minutes, but you have to wait until the songthaew is full. It can take a while. We paid 200 baht each (400 total) and left without waiting.
Once you get there, you walk up a steep flight of stairs about 10 minutes and there you are.
There are a squillion people milling around, countless trinket shops and touts.
Say a prayer and circle the Chedi clockwise three times and you’re done. You can pay 100 baht for a souvenir photo (they shoo away the other tourists so it looks pristine).
100 baht back to town, or 60 baht to go onward to the Hmong Village. Same deal, wait for the songthaew to fill up.
Overall, something you want to have done rather than do. Underwhelming considering all the hype.

It's not comfortable on the way here, and it's not comfortable on the way there.
Grab, because the bolts won't hold.
We have to gather 6 people at the back gate of Chiang Mai University and take a Songthaew.
(Songthaew: red truck)
They usually wait until there are 6 people,
but if you arrive late, they may leave with fewer people.
After about 20 minutes of rattling around on the road
Doi Suthep temple.
You can walk up to the temple,
you can also take a cable car for about 1000 baht
for about 1000 baht.
And don't miss the night view 🌟.
It was so pretty. The best 🌃
Have a beautiful trip to Chiang Mai 🛩

We went there at dusk when the temple was less crowded and peaceful. But I recommend visiting when there is more light and visibility to truly see the views. The car park is free, but there is an entrance fee as usual. Beautiful views of the Chang Mai City, and there are 300-plus steps to climb to the temple.

Hello, we are renting a car. Is there a parking lot / space up there, where do people usually park (I can see lots of red pickups nearby in the videos, but not sure if that's where we should park just on the street normally . THx
Yes there is plenty of parking at the top.

Is it risky to go up with a motorbike?
How much does it cost to go up with a tuktuk (per person or per car) or a taxi?
Based on what I did yesterday. A grab taxi from the Furama hotel was 400baht (2 people = 200 each). Coming back I took one of the red truck taxis, it’s 30baht each if there are ten people in the truck. I negotiated 60baht each because there were only four people. The road up to the temple is steep and winding but in good condition when it is dry so a motorbike would not be too difficult for an experienced rider. For safety check the brakes for the journey down.

Hire a grab cab. The red cabs will be nearly the same price and uncomfortable... tuk tuk are almost always a colorful rip off. In any case, leave early in order to be that at 7 am... it is a zoo of people after that

Do you have to wear long pants and tshirt here?
Hi yes need to wear long pant and t shirt to respect the temple
I think so. I would check their website carefully. There is a funicular that you could ride up and down, but still several steps. You might not see a much as others but I’d go anyway as it’s a real treasure.

What is the best way to get to this location? How much is the transfer? Would this place have a parking? What would be the cost?
Usamos o "red car", as caminhonetes vermelhas.
