Where to start. A very warm welcome at the pay desk everything explained. Ticket allows you months free entry good for locals. Staff very friendly & so knowledgeable. Not just horses Joe did a feed walk starting with the otter who knew which fish he preferred, moving onto the two red foxes who have such wonderful shining red coats, next Scottish wild cats one not long arrived so still isolated but next to the older one to make sure they get on & they are starting to communicate with each other then red squirrels unfortunately we didn't get a glimpse but staff think there maybe babies so that will account for them nesting & lastly two barn owls beautiful birds.
Next shire horses & foals. One born Jubilee day, one on Pageant day & the last born on Sunday June 12th. All well looked after & a pleasure to hear about them. In the afternoon of our visit it was great to watch the youngest foal & mum be turned out into the meadow.
Nice shop, cafe & clean toilets.
Just wish we lived closer.

Having been here a few times we called again having heard of the birth of a new foal which was only 2 days old! The centre has other animals to learn about and the walks are pleasant around the site. I would recommend that you join in on one of the free talks as it really is interesting learning about the family heritage of the horses and how they are cared for. On site, there is also a shop and a cafe to round things off.

Lovely location, we enjoyed exploring the grounds and meeting the Shires then listening to the interesting talk from the Wildlife Walk guy who fed the Otter, Foxes, Owl, Wildcat etc. We met some gorgeous foals, beyond stunning. The downside was seeing wild animals so caged, especially foxes who paced around seemingly insanely bored, no stimulation to be seen for them, the loan Otter ~ but it’s getting a friend we’re told. Hearing the Harsh reality of the Stud World - “foal is born then 2 days later Mum is impregnated again for hopefully a filly next time” reaaally ??!! ok maybe I’m too soft? Lovely place beautiful grounds great for kids of educational age. Sorry Cotebrook I would have given 5 Stars if the caged critters were given as much TLC as your stunning Shires x

I hadn’t been to cotebrook in many years and decided to give it a go.
Lovely entrance and shop with a cafe (shop had plenty of cute gifts to purchase). I was told that my ticket could then we used for the whole month at no extra cost which I also thought was fab, especially with my daughter.
Upon walking around, we were excited to see the wild animals that they had, although I’m not always overly appreciative of how they house them, I was even more upset than usual at Cotebrook-
- a fox was in a small enclosure and could be seen pacing back and to (clearly under stimulated)
- the 2 barn owls were both out in a tiny aviary (one owl kept flying back and forth). They didn’t even have an enclosed box to hide in and were wide awake in the day, which is not natural behaviour for them.
- they had an otter entirely on its own but did explain the efforts they were going to to find a mate.
- the wild Scottish cat also had a small enclosure and had no aspect of a wild environment in which it was housed; possibly extend the pen out so it can climb and be amongst thick hedging/grass to hide and explore)
I’m not sure I would contribute again to going to Cotebrook again due to these reasons but aside from that, it is lovely. Great open spaces, small play area, lots of Shire horses and a few Shetland ponies.

We had a lovely day here. All animals are mostly friendly and they seem to love the communication with people. It’s all very clean and well kept. Staff are friendly and give lots of information. We will return again soon.

We had a lovely morning, we were the only ones there it seemed. All the horses are friendly and love a good neck scratch and the pig is just a sweetheart! Overall we had a wonderful walk round, but definitely bring your wellies or some good boots. Will definitely return :)

We went to visit Father Christmas with our Grandaughter today at Cotebrook and feel that a review was needed so you do not go and waste your time or spoil what should be a Magical experience for your children which this was not...
The Elf was not friendly or welcoming at all and was not suited to do this job and as for the Father Christmas in his Grotto he needed to try to get into his role a lot better
He asked our Grandaughters name even though it was time allocated and he should have known this, he then just read his sheet word for word that had been written on the booking form then gave her a small soft toy. The total time spent with Santa was 40 seconds we know this as we videoed the meeting as many Grandparents do
There was no magic, no stories not even a reminder to leave a carrot out on Christmas eve for Rudolph
This was the worst visit to see Santa that we have ever had and would not recommend this to anyone. It was a total disgrace for what should have been a memorable day but instead she came out and told us that he was not the real Santa.

I couldn’t resist going back to see these majestic houses and the rest of the animals and wildlife.
It’s been a few years from the last time I stayed in the area, but for me the highlight of the visit.
I must say I did get a little too close to the electric fencing in the one field; but that was my fault; I just love shire horses and it gave the rest of the family an electrifying laugh at my expense.
It was great to talk to the guy looking after them and hear a few facts and a little more about them. Loved the small foul’s and finished with a nice drink in the cafe after the visit.
I really do recommend a visit but don’t forget wear some walking shoes; it can get a bit muddy in places.

Never been before but today we took our 2 and half year old grandson. We booked online and printed tickets out. We all wore welly’s which we were glad of, although weather stayed dry. Nice gift shop and cafe, clean toilets. We purchased a bag of food for the ducks etc. Went on a guided tour/talk we saw foxes, polecat being fed, owls were fed but resident cats scared them off😳.. shire horses are beautiful and massive, a foal had sore hoof which was being tended to, big pig, and Shetland pony.. great to see animals in lovely surroundings, there is a small play park and picnic area.. lovely place to visit we will go again.

Do you allow dogs?
Unfortunately we are unable to allow dogs into the Centre beyond the Cafe. Both for the safety of the animals and the dogs. We have free range ducks, hens and often piglets which may tempt even the best behaved dog!
Assistance dogs are very welcome but we would appreciate advanced notice of your visit.

is it wheelchair friendly?? and do carers have to pay?? thanks
Janet K
Cotebrook
There is wheelchair access to a reasonable proportion of the site.
The area around the farmyard, stables and exhibition centre has hard surfaces and is mainly level.
Many of the horses are grazed in the paddocks around the farm and there are several walks and trails.
There is an Easier Access Walk which is suitable for most wheelchairs and motor scooters and most of the Shire horses can be seen along this route.
Other Trails are grassed and some have steep inclines, so manual wheelchair users will need the assistance of a very able pusher to negotiate them.
Carers pay half the concession price, which is £4.25. Your admission tickets will be valid for free return visits for a month. I hope that this helps and we look forward to welcoming you soon!
