‪Beautiful estate to visit‬
الأصدقاء • أغسطس 2021
‪Had a great day at Ashridge Estate walking all around - lots of beautiful trees and various paths around. We brought our own picnic but also visited the cafe for a delicious (and huge) scone & tea, as well as the excellent little second hand bookshop which I’d be a frequent visitor to if I lived in the area. Lots of parking. Most paths are easy enough for those wearing trainers etc, though it might get a bit muddy in places after rain.‬

‪A Delightful National Trust Area‬
زوجان • سبتمبر 2021
‪We spent several happy hours doing the Forest Walk (3 miles, 75 minutes) and then Lunch at the Brownlow Cafe (see separate review).

The walk was pretty well marked out and generally very quiet. Just a few dog walkers, horses and ramblers.

Parking was plentiful and nicely situated by the Cafe and Ice Cream Van!

‪A nice walk out.‬
زوجان • يوليو 2021
‪Fancied a nice walk but in the shade as it’s very warm. Plenty of parking available. Plenty of maps around so went towards Aldbury but only went so far as it is quite steep ( so drove there for lunch ). Went to the cafe for a cuppa & visited the second hand bookshop.‬

‪Stunning‬
يونيو 2021
‪We fancied a nice walk out in a different place, so after looking through the NT Website, we decided to do the 5 mile walk from the Bridgewater Monument to Ivinghoe Beacon.

The scenery was lovely. When we were at Ivinghoe Beacon, we were lucky enough to get close to 3 Red Kites that were riding the air currents. Absolutely breath taking!

We will be back again soon to try out some more of the many routes around this beautiful area.‬

‪Nice day out on a summer day ☑️‬
الأصدقاء • مايو 2021
‪This is an excellent National Trust place, and I’ve been on a sunny day which was pretty good. There is a lot of her parking available they have ice cream vans and a café for lunch and coffee and tea.

I don't know how's the cafe and the quality of the food they serve but would be good to try out one day. If you do try then let me know too.

From there, there are several tracking parts that you can go on. It’s a good day to spend the whole day for a picnic or walk around in the jungle. It’s an ancient forest which goes beyond pre-history and so some of those are very very unique and different kind of paths in between trees, and it’s overall it's an excellent area to walk around and explores the forest area.

A good day out the family picnic and with the kids spend the summer days and afternoons.

I think you can also hire mobility scooters to go around.‬

‪What a wonderful place!‬
أبريل 2021
‪This was my first visit, a rendezvous with my Mum & sister. It was a beautiful day, in a prolonged dry weather period so there was plenty of accessible parking on a sunday on monument drive. I can see it could be a problem when the ground is very wet however, hence to alerts on the estate website. Alternatives are the various small parks dotted about the borders of the estate, marked on their map.

I can't sing the praises enough really. Whilst managed by the NT, its free to the public. there are extensive open and wooded paths including well-marked cycle trails. The stunning bluebells (normally at their peak mid April) are a little late this year due to the colder temperatures so still worth seeing until end 1st week in May Id estimate. The go-to place for bluebells is Dockey Wood to north end of the estate. This has its own small car park. However, the paths in the north part of the woodlands all are lovely for bluebells.

The visitor centre staff and cafe coffee are wonderful and there are some mobile refreshment vans nearby too to cater for refreshments.

A special shout out to Rhodri Gruffydd from the Visitor experience team who went above an beyond to reunite me with my lost purse! Thank you‬

‪Ashridge Gardens visit‬
أبريل 2021
‪Ashridge house is run as an educational college and wedding venue, but with both activities highly restricted it is opening up more opportunities for day visitors to the Ashridge estate to explore. The gardens and arboretum used to be open in a limited way for pre-booked tours, charity open garden days, plant fairs, etc. Over the Easter period they have been open daily, pre-booking required. Courtyard cafe is now open daily, a welcome alternative to the often too busy cafe at the Monument.

The gardens are a wonderful and rather underused resource and its very welcome to have more public access to them. Three of the countries best garden designers - capability brown, Humphrey Repton and Jeffry Wyatville all worked on the gardens and left their mark.

Near the house are a series of formal gardens including the Monks garden, which in its current form has family crests in box hedges. This looks wonderful in the spring as between the box are daffodils. Immediately in front of the house the 19th C terrace is a box and yew parterre also interplanted with daffodils.

The dry garden is a more recent addition from 2008, quiet in the spring, with a few early tulip and scilla bulbs. More colourful is the Lazell garden, developed in 1972, it looks like something from a gardening magazine from the 70s, with heathers, maples and a rock garden. The grotto made of flints and puddingstone can unfortunately only be viewed from the outside. On top is the mount - which has spring flowers including fritillaries, hellebores and miniature daffodils.

On the lawn in front of the house are several large trees including an oak planted by the then princess Victoria. There is also a large arboretum which has views down and across to Golden Valley. There are a series of long avenues, the largest of which are Wellingtonia. At the end is a mound, which has some spring wild flowers and a rustic arbour, planned by Repton but only built in the 1990s.

The day we visited most other visitors were families with young children. There is however, plenty to interest adults. The gardens are very large and there are no difficulties finding space. Picnics are discouraged and you can see their point as the cafe, which has a pleasant range of hot food, cakes and drinks is one of the few sources of income. Very much hope the gardens will be open more through 2021.‬
