I can't believe I've been collecting wine for almost 40 years, and Helm Wines have escaped my attention. That is a massive fail on my part. Ken Helm is a wine industry treasure who makes exceptional wines. I can say that with complete confidence as we happened to turn up on a weekend when he was showing some old vintages. Not only did we get to try his current release wines (which are all superb), but also a 98 Merlot, a 04 Cabernet Merlot and 06, 15 and 17 Cabernet Sauvignons. And what a privilege it was to taste each of them. Set in an idyllic location, the tasting room is in a historic schoolhouse with memorabilia that will set any wine buff's heart a flutter. Helm Wines is a must visit (I'll be back).

Ken Helm...not only an exceptional wine maker but a man with a fascinating life history and he is only too happy to spend time chatting while serving his remarkable wines for tasting.
Visit and of course purchase these excellent wines, but also visit to meet this delightful man and hear his enjoyable anecdotes. Truly he should be on the speaking circuit. He would pack the auditoriums.

I was at Helm for a visit on the Australia Day weekend and had a wonderful time. I didn't test then, and didn't stay too long but bought a mixed half dozen, but the folk were courteous, friendly and efficient. Next time I go back I will linger longer. Have had the chance to drink a couple of bottles over the last couple of weeks and tonight it's the turn of the Helm Riesling 2022 Classic Dry. Wow, what a drop. It's so different to their 2022 Half Dry Riesling.Both were very nice, but the Classic is fantastic. Ken was amazing, and I'm sorry I didn't;t catch the lady's name, but both lovely, friendly, warm hearted people. I can thoroughly recommend a visit to Helm Wine if you are anywhere near the Canberra Wine Region. I'll Be Back.

Recommended by some locals who love the wine. They got this one right. All my sort of wines. Lovely reds - so good I had to take some home with me.

Helm was recommended to us by a sommelier at a restaurant in Kingston as it was one of the few Canberra wineries that we hadn't visited and we have absolutely been missing out. Ken delivers amazing Riesling from every vineyard and shows what Cabernet Sauvignon can do here in Canberra. I absolutely recommend Helm to anyone visiting the Canberra wine region.

Outstanding winery producing quality Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon. Ken produces what he likes and he makes it very, very well. Ken's tasting experience is also first rate with plenty of stories and anecdotes to go along with the wines. As a founding father of the area there is not much he doesn't know about the region's wine and wine making.
The wines themselves are all exceptional and it was impossible to leave without taking at least something from across the range.
The winery itself is a little out of the way but it is well worth the visit.

What a beautiful landscape to have a winery in. This place has to be my favourite tasting place I’ve had. Ken has wonderful conversation, an interesting history in regards to where he has been and what he has done in the wine world, knows a lot about the local landscape and the story behind the little school building, and has a wonderful, friendly nature. Will definitely bring friends back here (went with family) and looking forward to chatting to Ken again. Can’t forget the photos on the walls of everywhere Helm has been!

We arrived at Helm on a Saturday and even though we didn’t have a booking Ken was very welcoming and invited us in to the cellar door to try his range of wines. Ken talked us through the wines and shared entertaining stories and his deep knowledge with us, which made for a very enjoyable experience. We’d definitely recommend a trip to Helm if you’re in the region.

Helm wines are an outstanding winery in the Murrumbateman area. We were led through the range by a very passionate Ken Helm. The Riesling was brilliant. The reds were simply outstanding. The venue is simply delightful. The old school house. The Cabernet Sauvignon was brilliant. This is a not to miss venue if you visit the Canberra wine era.

Having enjoyed Helm Wines for many years, we had a pleasant experience at the vineyard during the recent Murrumbateman Moving Feast. The hospitality on the day was very good, even though they were busy. The winery has character in that you drive well into the property passed the vines to an old school house, which is a quaint tasting room. You won’t be disappointed with the quality of the wine, with the Riesling being a consistent standout.
