Right next to where we were staying, this wonderful garden is not to be missed. The guides and folks who work there are so passionate about the butterflies. We learned so much and were so impressed by the knowledge the folks working there have for the insects. A great place to bring the kids. Check out the board in the waiting area showing all the animals, insects, reptiles, etc. they have spotted in the region since the beginning of the calendar year. Amazing place.

Listen... I was looking forward to going back to El Mundo de Los Insectos...a place which apparently shut down since my visit over 20 yrs ago. Ended up at Monteverde Butterfly Garden (Jardin de Mariposas). And so happy I did. My wife and I had a terrific time. The lecture and walk through was entertaining and educational. Loved hearing about The Schmidt sting pain index...google for some giggles. We enjoyed the visit and I 100% fell in love with the woman giving the tour. Yup, creepy long distance crush. Hey, but given the environment, who could blame me? Seriously, a great place to bring kids. The age range of the clientele was huge and everyone clearly had fun. Part of the fun was the woman giving the lecture...sense of humor and handled the crowd well. Good job.

We had an amazing afternoon at the mariposario. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and from his explanations you could feel the passion he has for what he is doing. Our five year old was listening to him for more than 90 minutes without getting tired or bored! There are not only butterflies but also insects. Many thanks for this great experience!

Don't miss this lovely experience while in Santa Elena! Go early (they open at 9) before it gets crowded, and take a tour with one of their fantastic guides-- ours was Dmitri, so knowledgeable and engaging. It's not all about butterflies, although there are plenty of those to enjoy. You'll also learn all about other insects and fascinating plants, and their inter-relationships. Very highly recommended!

We really enjoyed our visit. Only a short taxi from the main town. You can visit more than once with your ticket.
Started with seeing different spiders, beetles, stick insects. Got to hold a giant cockroach and handle other bugs.
We walked through 4/5 areas full of different butterflies. The guide was great at explaining the different species and various facts. Great 1-2 hour visit.

You get a guide included in the entry price, we had Roy aka ‘Butterfly Roy’, who was really informative, friendly and funny. The range of butterflies and insects was great. We also had a handful of monkeys make their way over the gardens while we were there which was an unexpected treat. Take a trip, it will be worth your while.

Our guide Veronica was absolutely delightful, had a wonderful way of storytelling all of the science while helping us enjoy the sheer beauty of each of the creatures and butterflies she showed us.
The staff in general were extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
While any trip to Monteverde is full of amazing experiences, this one stands out as one of true learning and understanding!
Thank you to Veronica and the whole team for a great morning

This is not a huge place but very friendly and thanks to our very knowledgable guide Dimitri we had a great time. Takes around 2h to get guided through and you leave with lots of knowledge and pictures of butterflies

Es war wahnsinnig spannend und interessant! Unser Guide war selber total begeistert von den Insekten. Wir konnten all diese Insekten und Schmetterlinge noch nie so in Ruhe und aus der Nähe betrachten.

You can, though due to the confusion of there being more than one butterfly garden in town you are best to just jump in a taxi and ask to come to the gardens! We have tours all the time so no need to worry about making it for a specific time!
