Klein aber fein. Ein Besuch lohnt sich auf jeden Fall. Gibt einen guten Einblick über das jüdische Leben und verbunden mit einer Themenausstellung.

Man findet im modernen Museum sehr interessante Ausstellungsstücke zum jüdischen Leben in Westfalen. Mit moderner Multimediatechnik wird einem vieles Neue nahegebracht. Es lohnt einen Besuch.

Waren zum ersten mal im jüdischen Museum in Dorsten. Es gab eine nette Führung, in der einiges zum jüdischen Leben berichtet wurde. Sicherlich ist die Zahl der Exponate nicht besonders groß, dafür aber liebevoll aufbereitet. Sicherlich eine gute Wahl an einem verregneten Sonntag.

Das jüdische Museum Westfalen hat uns sehr gut gefallen.
Sehr interessante Ausstellungsstücke, sehr gut erklärt und aktuell mit einer sehr interessanten, begleitenden Kunstausstellung.

As we were in town, we decided to have a look around the Jewish museum. To be truthful it is a bit of a letter down. It is one room with few exhibits.
As the audio guide is only available in German we were given a print out to read. Although the print out was interesting it hardly mentions the few exhibits (with the exception of the wicker chest of books). The printout tracks the Jewish people in the area of Germany from the first Jewish people up to modern times.
We still don't know what the 7,8,9 candle thingy is for though the print out does say about the instance that the 7 lamps that did not have sufficient oil, still kept burning.

As this museum advertises itself at the Jewish museum of Westfalia I had expected a much larger exhibition than that offered. The day we visited there was an exhibition in only one large room, I thought there would be more. Consequently I was quite disappointed especially as we had gone to Dorsten to visit this museum. Maybe they are in the process of setting up more exhibits. From the booklet I picked up it seems that this is more a cultural centre for the area than a museum.
I bought a poster which showed the fate of the Jewish people in Dorsten in the 1930s and during the war. This poster was more informative about local Jewish people than the museum exhibits (many of which were English). Having been to the excellent Jewish museum in Camden I expected something along the same lines which was why I was disappointed to find so little on display. The man at the desk spoke English and was able to answer one or two questions. There was no entry fee but a box if one wished to contribute, which we did.
On the pavements in Dorsten one can find stolpersteins, to me this is a sign that a community cares.
