- Michelle J3 contributionsLoved this museum. The virtual reality headset gave you such a realistic aerial view over Central Australia while experience what happens on board the aircraft while transporting a patient. The hologram was brilliant and answered every question you could have, while presenting in such an engaging way. The museum was so much better than I expected. The staff were lovely also. Well worth the visit.Written March 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- KatielouAustraliaHobart, Australia1,734 contributionsThis "classroom" covers more than 1.3 million square kilometers! Fascinating to see what goes into providing an education for the children of the outback.Written November 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - felicia2732Barham, Australia3 contributionsWe visited twice during our trip to Alice. We were warmly welcomed even though we arrived 15 mins before closing time. Kids were given a little activity to do while we browsed.
We expressed interest in a particular work and Karl held it for us for a week until we returned.
He was happy to tell us about the work but wasn’t pushy, let us ponder it and look at it quietly on our own.
We purchased two paintings in the end and couldn’t be happier with them and the overall experience.Written September 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The museum is very informative and worth spending time in it mentioned a lot of history I was unaware of. A couple cells in the men's jail gave me chills. But it certainly was worth taking the time to visit.Written August 3, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - rob27898Port Kennedy, Australia389 contributionsWasn’t sure what to expect as from the pictures it looked quite small. Although it dosnt take up a huge foot print physically there is tonnes of information and literature to read and see with plenty of fossils and drawings to match.
You can spend 5 mins watching the team behind the glass cleaning and discovering too.
A great hour or so spent mooching and reading. In November the place was super quiet with only the 2 of us in for most of our time.
Staff was friendly and helpful and don’t forget the usual tat-shop at the end.

Jila Arts has two galleries in the Todd mall and another in a studio in another location. We found there was better art here than uluru and is on par with the gallery of central Australia (Alice springs). Jila arts go above and beyond to support all artists which gives you great piece of mind. We found the whole team to be upfront, honest and down to earth. Will definitely be ordering more art from Jila in the future. Thanks Corny, Mandy, Sam and Paul. You guys made our trip to Alice something to remember.Written October 25, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Brett BBulli, Australia9 contributionsInteresting museum especially to see medical equipment from early last century. Nice background information on the Reverend John Flynn. Volunteer was very informative.Written May 18, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

Don’t hesitate to ask the staff questions about the artists. They are very helpful and happy to tell you about it. - Brett D2 contributionsI spent 5 hours there and didn’t want to leave as there were still things to read and view. If you are at all interested in aviation and history it is a must.Written July 28, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - rob27898Port Kennedy, Australia389 contributionsWe had to make a return journey to here as it closes earlier than the rest of the site for some reason.
There is the natural history museum section and an art gallery for peruse. I wish we had been directed to the start rather than realising half-way through that we were going back in time.
Never mind. A good collected of stuffed dead animals and some interesting science stuff about the landscape.
Worth a visit but probably as part of the complex and not a one off.
I’m surprised they don’t do a combi-ticket as it can be quite pricey to do both venues especially if more than 2 of you.Written November 12, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are several carriages kept in reasonable condition showing what life was like onboard. In the museum area there are several rooms dedicated to the construction and history of the route as well as various other pieces of significance.Written July 10, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ColinAndChristinaAuckland Central, New Zealand72 contributionsThis art gallery is a short distance away from the retail centre of Alice Springs where there are several galleries within walking distance of each other selling indigenous artwork. However, it is definitely worthwhile making the short drive to visit Mbantua Gallery, whether anticipating buying a painting or just to wander through looking at the very extensive range of art and artefacts that they have there.
The premises comprise several rooms opening off each other and it is quite an adventure seeking out wonderful items. As well as new works on canvas or made as objects there are older pieces too, including artefacts which were once included in a museum display by the gallery owner.
Gallery manager Simone very willingly shared her knowledge with us whilst just encouraging us to look around without any pressure to buy. Of course, we did come away with a couple of 'treasures' which Simone expertly packed and shipped home for us. We also had the most amazing opportunity and privilege to have a lengthy conversation with the CEO of the gallery, Tim Jennings. From his years in the territory as a collector and gallerist he has obtained a most extensive background and detailed knowledge of the indigenous culture, its art and artefacts, and many of its artists and their art.
We encourage everyone to visit Mbantua Gallery even if only to look at what is there - it is an amazing place and well worth the short trip to it.Written July 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is now a new collection of large, spectacular dot paintings. Certainly worth a visit for art lovers.Written December 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
