We stayed with Oscar at Miraflores for four nights. The hotel is down a long driveway and is at the top of the beach. At the back is reception and a breakfast area. The accommodation is two long rows of rooms with stunningly beautiful flowering shrubs in between. This leads into a gated terrace right in front of the water with a cooling breeze off the lake. There are rockers and hammocks and tables and chairs. The whole vibe of the place is tranquility. Breakfast was included but we have no idea if that was standard. The staff were friendly and helpful and the beds comfortable. We lazed around for a few days and enjoyed the beach. Ojo de Agua is about 6 km away which is well worth a visit. If you need a guide for walking volcanos or anything else ask Oscar for Carlos, a young man with good english, a great sense of humour and honesty and sincerity oozing out of his pores. We moved from Miraflores to Oscar’s finca, El Porvenir another little paradise. It sits at one of the trail heads to hike Volcan Maderas. Thanks for your kindness Oscar!…
This hostel was great! It is on the beach, the breeze coming off the lake is great for sleeping. You can walk right out onto the beach. The hostel is very clean, the staff is friendly and helpful. The bathrooms are also large, which can be hard to find in Nicaragua.
We stayed at Hostel Miraflores in a double room for 3 nights during our time in Ometepe. Best Parts: -Rooms was spacious with a large ensuite included. -The owner Hector was very welcoming, friendly & eager to assist, he kindly arranged motorcycle rental for us right away in addition to shuttle buses on departure. -Location: property is right on the lake which makes for picturesque views if you want to chill out on the patio area outside. -There is a casual restaurant right next door which is great if you want food or drinks. -You see plenty of wildlife including frogs, birds & horses roaming the lake beach! Suggestions for improvement: -Perhaps offer some rooms with the option of air-con as it gets very hot at certain parts of the day -Empty the toilet paper bins daily -Have a mat in the bathroom for when guests get out of the shower to stop water dripping all over the floor -Invest in some zap lights or insect deterrent coils to burn at night (Ometepe has loads of bugs & mosquitos) -Get the tvs in the room up & running Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay with friends & would recommend Miraflores! …
We really enjoyed our stay here! The hostel owner hector was extremely helpful in terms of helping us rent motorbikes, (you need them to get around in ometepe) booking shuttles at the cheapest possible rate and helping us navigate around the island, he really went above and beyond to help us in any way he could. The hostel is right on the beach, which is extremely peaceful the gardens are filled with flowers and there is wild life all around you. We stayed in a private room, which had a large bathroom and the room was spacious too. The only suggestion we would have for anyone staying at Miraflores would be to bring a lot of bug spray as mosquitoes and other bugs are everywhere and being prepared with bug spray would make your stay more enjoyable!
I main positive of this hostel is that it's clean! In a place that is full of bugs and sand, the rooms/hostel are kept remarkably clean. The rooms are cleaned every two days with a fresh set of towels and sheets, which makes the stay slightly more comfortable. Very strong wifi was also a nice change of pace to the rest of Nicaragua! We stayed here in order to be on the beach, Santo Domingo, which it was. Being able to walk out into the beach and into the lake from the room was nice, however, the beach was pretty dirty, plus there was nowhere to even sit and relax. With regards to the room itself, it was not only very very hot (the fan they provide is mounted high on the wall and is next to useless, the air doesn't reach the beds on the other side of the room) but also very loud. Wild dogs roaming the beach barking, and the security guards listening to music made for quite a loud night. Security guards need to stop smoking outside the rooms, as they may has well of been in bed next to us with the smell it caused. Another negative is the breakfast was very expensive for what it was. And the lack of options around made getting other meals difficult! We ended up going to the same restaurant 3 times... not much the hostel can do here other than offer some reasonably priced food options themselves. In summary, the hostel was reasonable but needs some work to make it a comfortable stay.…
