We stayed here over 2 years ago but I wanted to have it in my records so I don't forget this amazing place. Thank God for Lonely Planet, which directed us to this place that barely exists online. It was exactly what we were looking for. A tiny charming house built over the river, in the most gorgeous and ideal little village in Portugal. When we checked in, Rita - the owner - began blabbering away to us excitedly in Portugese. Sadly, we didn't understand. Something about dinner? She finally had some other guests translate for us - there was a celebratory village communal dinner that night, and we could join. OMG it was one of the best experiences of my life - a table set up about 200 yards long, white table cloth, jugs and jugs of local red wine, and at least 10 courses that just kept coming and coming and were shared communally. The room was adorable - stone house, cozy bed, bathtub, etc. Rita was lovely. And the village was a dream - lovely gardens everywhere, tiny ancient houses, old men in hats. :) We took a long drive into the mountains, passing shepherds and their flock. Even though it's been years, I still think about this place quite often, and can't wait to get back there someday.…
