Originally me and my friend planned to stay at The North Jewel for 2 nights - but we ended up staying 3!
The place The Bungalows are spacious and built and designed by the owner himself who is doing amazing woodwork that blends in beautifully with the surrounding nature. There is a small pool available for everyone, but you won’t have to share it with many as there are also Bungalows that have their own private pools available!
Um Kareem delighted us with delicious and rich local breakfast and also cooked famous jordanian dishes for us for dinner per request - event though of course this is a bungalow rental where you do have your own kitchen and may as well cook for yourself! Grocery stores are in the village a few minutes drive uphill. You could either walk or ask the owners to call one of the local drivers.
If you plan on coming from Israel like my friend did, make sure to inquire with the receptionist on the border opening hours as these can change quickly. The drive is shorter than it shows on google maps, you only need about 35minutes.
Amenities all work well and after a long day full of experiences this is definitely a fantastic sunset and stargazing spot to just crash and relax on your holywood swing!
Hospitality
First of all, I have to mention Abu Ali, the receptionist. He is the impersonation of Jordanian hospitality, speaks flawless English, is very attentive and funny and as an ex-pilot knows his country in and out! Any issue or question you have he surely finds a solution. We also met his family and they are all simply adorable!
When we visited, there were a lot of Saudi families as Ajloun is a beloved holiday destination for them. As we were the only europeans, the owners quickly adjusted and gave us access to one of the private pools so we all could spend our time as we wished without any differences in culture becoming an issue. We could of course have chosen to use the public one as well, but me and my friend as experienced travellers of the middle east simply felt more comfortable this way and were delighted upon the offer 😊
Activities As my friend arrived later than I, I had some time to fill. And so the owner’s brother, Mu’min took me on a hike down the valley. He knows the area for as long as he knows himself and will make sure you’re alright should you choose to go on a hike with him. We chose an easy path along the river through a native oak forest, had some tea cooked on a quickly set up fire, and talked about a whole range of topics from the roman’s secret signage for gold streams, local myths on native trees, culture erc. We laughed a lot and also just sat and listened to the wind. It was a fantastic full-day experience and you surely should plan in time to experience it during your stay at the north jewel!
All that said, I’m sure I’ll be back next time I visit Jordan - and I strongly recommend you go there too!
