Overpriced and lawless This place is living on past glories When this resort was built 20 years ago it attracted a civilised class of adult and mature person. I have been staying with friends here over the Easter break and never again. All day long kids screaming at the pool…their parents having no control . Young boys tearing around on scooters when there are signs forbidding scooter use… Cars tearing through the resort with music blasting despite the 15 km limit, was very nearly knocked over by a P plater driving a white car I was also very close to being run off the road by 4 young children driving around in a golf buggy... Avoid this resort at all cost as rules and the law of the road do not apply here.

The Lakes is a gated, private residential community located at the base of Mt Coolum on the Sunshine Coast. Each residence is privately owned and is expertly managed by the community managers Bruce and Bridget Blair. The Lakes is quite unique, it has some permanently occupied residences and some short stay houses. Each house has a lake frontage and or views onto Mt Coolum. My family lived at The Lakes for one year. We had spent one year traveling around Australia and decided to stop on the sunshine coast and put the children into school and work. We needed a furnished house as our stay was only temporary and we are from Western Australia, and were going to continue our travels after one year break. Each house has a golf buggy, access to Yaroomba Beach via golf cart roads, so no need to drive and park. Some residences have their own pool however there is a beautiful pool and barbeque cabana and tennis courts available at the centre of the community. There was also Aqua classes and Pilates running on 2 mornings a week with a fun group of guests and residents. Whilst we lived there we had many friends and family visit and at one stage we rented another residence to acommodate family who came to congreagate together for Easter. The Lakes is the perfect place to rent big dwellings for many guests. It is ideal for guests attending weddings, family Christmas celebrations, milestone birthdays or anniversary's. It is very private, very beautiful and very special. The Lakes is full of wildlife and is a sanctuary to birds and fish. Our family have grown to really apreciate Australias natural beauty after camping in some of it's most beautiful places, not least The Lakes which is the only place I recall on our journey with the diversity of birds and animals in a residential area, it really is quite an amazing place. Local friends who visited us while we lived there were not even aware of it's existence as it is very tucked away. Coolums best kept secret! Our time there will be remembered in our family as a very significant and wonderful one on our journey around Australia. It will forever be in our hearts. Once you have stayed there you will find it hard not to return for those special occasions or just for a home away from home on the beautiful sunshine coast.…
