We went to Failaka island with a group (around 30 people) for a day trip. Nice place to unwind if you are looking for some quite away from city time :).
Its approx 30mins from Marina mall (Salmiya) to the island.
They have a small museum depicting the village lifestyle, kids play area, camel ride, boating and a mini cafe.
Plan to go with friends else you will get easily bored as there is not much to do here.

It was a very good place to unwind all the tensions from the busy city life. The setup is good and has huge crowd pulling potential but some how i felt it is little under managed. We had a great day spending here.

Nicely arranged with the old type of construction, gives a relief from the city life to stay more closer to the earth. The villas are of heritage type which gives a nostalgic feeling. The villas consist of a central open area where everybody can join and have fun together. The roads are decorated with grape creepers, covering the top portion. The lake and the small zoo all entertains children. When moved to out skirts, it gives a feeling of a "Lost City" also.

This is a place which has huge potential but the facilities are not up to mark. Day visitors be aware you might not get an entry into this facility which is in real bad shape. If you are taking ferry from marina mall you will have access to the village and might use the pool. The failaka lake is simply a dirty paddle with few paddle boats and the zoo has altogether a baboon, few seers a peacock all in desperate condition. Carry ample food and water you will be in a fix other wise.

This is my first time here.loved the idea of getting away from the city and taking the ferry trip.I can see in my own vision a great potential for this place but unfortunately this place looks like it needs some touches to make it perfect get away resort. 1.the ferryboat trip was good managed but the boat it self had no WE.no vending machinesor snake shop.also due to our weather it would be excellent if the boat had closed air condition seating area so we can leave the cars and enjoy the ride. 2.as soon as your boat reaches final aka you see disaster entrance which is not welcoming at all...old left out houses.old factory .the road is not well maintained .no signs to the resort.we just followed the resort bus .... 3.the resort it self belongs to safir hotel.the staff are very welcoming and friendly but again the trees are dead.the animals are dead.the kids play ground is old.the beach should have been prepared to be part of the resort not out side it.after all this is an island and we should be able to use the beach all day long. 4.the houses are so beautiful and old style .well build and feels like my grandfather old house as I can remember from pictures .clean. The only thing is that the kitchen had no dishes no stoov so not well prepared for cooking at all.this is a self catering facilities and the daily rate dose not include any meal so you can't force people to eat out every single meal by depriving the kitchen from all main basic tools. 5.the grocery store and all restaurants are double priced from the mainland. 6.since family's come here with children it would be nice to provide a kids club with full program and indoor and out door activity even for a fee.also renew the playground with new toys.
