Wonderful hotel and great hospitality! Incredibly kind and warm to a foreigner with inefficient Japanese. The staff provided great recommendations and assistance us with activities reservations. Room was immaculate and the shower was fantastic. We had a great room with a view of the mountain. Hotel is with walking distance of an amazing Wagyu beef restaurant and great cafes. About 5 minutes car ride outside main street and roughly 10 minutes to UNESCO world Heritage site. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
If all you want is a comfortable room and you don't require any food, a gym or other services or amenities, this hotel is an acceptable choice. It is new and the lobby and guest rooms are attractively designed. The location is two kilometers away from central Nikko, including the Toshogu Shrine but it feels quite isolated and there are no restaurants or stores within walking distance. The hotel has no restaurant or gym so to eat breakfast, it is necessary to drive two kilometers into the city. I wouldn't stay in this hotel unless you have a car and even then, I would prefer to stay in a hotel that serves breakfast.
If you are traveling by car then consider this hotel. You'll need a car to get to anything including a convenience store. The hotel has a mini shop with some food stuffs that are priced similar to a 7-11. There is a pre-paid wine server with reasonable wine but the hassle of getting a card activated and then charged isn't worth it. Keep in mind that the room is not large but I thought the layout with sliding walls made it feel spacious.
